@alex @mk Why do I suddenly follow more people in your instance than any other except Qoto?

Is this that feminist witchcraft I was warned about at the bible camp I'm making up to make this joke work?

@Ruby_Crabmuppet Something that disgusts me about this whole debate as how everyone who's against abortion/planned parenthood, et al try to hide their agenda behind 'women's health'. It's totally fucked and it pisses me off that in 2019 things are rolling backwards.

@Starlit_Fire I'mma be honest, I'd rather someone call me a lady than punch me in the mouth. Like no contest.

@Surasanji I agree on the problem with the data - unfortunately there is a major dearth of research on the trans population, especially research with sex-disaggregated numbers since acknowledging sex is considered an affront to the target population itself at this point. It makes it really hard to find real facts.

@mk That's really messed up, to be honest. People with mental health issues really do need to be taken care of.

I am very lucky that my mother felt that for me when my bipolar appeared. She sold all her jewelry and a lot of sentimental, but valuable stuff just to make sure I was healthy and safe.

I find it disheartening and upsetting that young people at risk are not getting the care they need, particularly where it involves escaping abusive systems and their mental health.

Mental Health, sudden recall. CW for Length.

You ever just suddenly remember something from your past in like super vivid detail?

When I was first diagnosed with Bipolar disorder I lived in a couple of residential treatment facilities (Two, over the course of about 6-8 months) . During this time I took a test, like a personality test or something. It was a long test that asked many of the same questions in different ways.

I, of course, pointed this out to the proctor.

So, the test was done, I gave them my answers and maybe a week later I sat with a gentleman who apparently was in charge of understanding what my answers in the test meant.

I recall him going into my gender a lot- and I know exactly why: Several questions were, almost exactly, "Have you ever wondered what it be like to be the opposite gender".

And so, being the curious and honest young man I was at the time I answered yes to all of those questions.

I remember thinking- How cool would it be to be able to experience life as someone else, a different gender or culture or what have you- how much better could I understand myself if I was able to live those lives even for a day or two?

Anyways, that's the memory that came rushing back.

To all those who insist "letting non-dysphorics transition if they want doesn't affect people like you"... Yes, yes it does. And you're selfish monsters for not caring!

@metapsyche that sounds like the sort of thing someone with some kind of hidden left-handed creative agenda would say. I'm on to you.

@mk That does bring up more questions, although it appears the evidence mentioned in this particular article is anecdotal.

I have no reason to disbelieve experts, but I would certainly prefer hard data versus anecdotal particularly in a situation that deals with young people who may or may not have mental health issues that require treatment.

Being that said, I can absolutely see the point being made here, in particular as it results to the transferring of that religious magical thought into other forms of similar thought.

I can absolutely see people who are unable to break themselves of these thought patterns entering into unhealthy communities that on the surface seem kind, loving, and accepting but are ultimately toxic and damaging.

Of course, that magical thinking is exceedingly difficult to get away from once it's ingrained within one's psyche. It's one of the patterns people build their reality with.

The fabric of one's universe is very, very difficult to reweave. I fear you may, very much, have an uphill battle here.

@bryceyoungquist it was canceled so the overseas market wouldn't be confused.

@mk Hi MK,

I was reading your article- good stuff. I was curious about something though:
"Modern gender ideology displays multiple similarities to religion, and in some cases even cults, attracting those who are refugees from religion due to their sexuality or gender non-conformity —girls and young women are especially vulnerable."

Do you feel that girls and young women are more vulnerable than boys and young men to this kind of magical thinking and cultishness?
