Who was Iryna Farion, the nationalist professor-politician assassinated in Lviv?
Despite the contrasting opinions surrounding her life’s work and sometimes contentious public statements, the assassination of linguist and former right-wing lawmaker Iryna Farion on July 19 came as a shock to Ukrainians.
Sixty-year-old Farion was shot in the head by an unknown assailant outside of her home in the western city of Lviv in what many now believe to be a politically-motivated killing.

On July 20, Houthi forces attempted to attack a container ship near Yemen twice. The first attempt was with a UAV, the second with an unmanned surface vehicle.
According to "Clash Report", the ship's crew was Ukrainian.
Chief Sergeant Oleg Kurtushan, call sign Ketya, died on January 5, 2024 in the Kherson region.
Oleg was 48 years old. Lived in the Kirovohrad Oblast. Acquired the profession of mechanic. Engaged in entrepreneurial activities. For the past 15 years, he has been interested in industrial fishing.
During the full-scale Russian invasion, he defended Ukraine as part of the 121 separate ground defense brigade.
He was awarded the "War Veteran" badge, the "Defender of the Motherland" medal and the presidential award "For the Defense of Ukraine".
"My husband was a very good family man, a loving father. We lived together for 26 happy years. He loved justice. He had a lot of friends who appreciated his best trait in him - his humanity," said Olena's wife.
Oleh is survived by his wife and daughter.
