lives on 10 acres in a sparsely populated area of the Ozarks. I heat with wood that is leftover by the lumber industry. When cutting oak for lumber only the trunk is used.
The largest town is population 2993. The county is 13k people scattered over 713 square miles.

Andrei Kurshin, the administrator of the Russian Telegram channel Moscow Calling, has been sentenced to 6.5 years in prison in a case of "fakes".
Two posts in his Telegram channel became the reason. The first was about a strike in the Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rig, as a result of which the local population had problems with water supply. "This strike is undoubtedly a war crime by Russia," the post read. The second post reported about the attack on the maternity ward of the CRKB Volnyansky district of Zaporizhzhya Region.

🇩🇪Berliner Morgen Post writes that Germany sees no problem with Ukraine using Leopard 2 tanks and other German weapons to advance through the territory of Russia.
The Bundestag believes that after the transfer, these weapons become Ukrainian, and the actions of the Defense Forces in the Kursk region are
"completely legal and make military sense."

🔴 Fighting in the Kursk region continues for the second day. The Kremlin called it a "large-scale provocation."
🔴 russian media reports that the russian military retreated from the Suja gas measuring station, through which gas is transited to Europe through the territory of Ukraine.
🔴 The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the russian Federation, Gerasimov, said that the enemy's advance had been stopped. Instead, russian Telegram channels say that the russian army has lost control over the district centers of Suja and Korenevo and several other villages.

🔴 The Ukrainian side does not comment on the situation. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine informs that over the past day, russian aviation has been active on the border Sumy Oblast. The occupiers dropped more than 30 anti-aircraft guns, shelling continues.
🔴Mandatory evacuation of 23 settlements is being carried out in Sumy Oblast (Ukraine). 6.000 people are subject to evacuation, including 425 children. Families with children are evacuated first.
The situation in Sumy region is tense, the last air alert lasted more than a day.

Rest in Peace Serhiy. You will be remembered and revered
On the morning of August 4, the chef of the Kherson restaurant Kabanos, Serhiy Pantak, was killed at the front.
At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Serhiy Pantak, along with two other Kherson chefs, cooked for doctors, patients, and people in Kherson's bomb shelters. Every day, the cooks fed 200 to 300 people.

KURSK UPDATE
The Ukrainians are keeping pretty quiet about why and what is exactly happening. What we do know is that Bradley’s have been used, along with other western supplied vehicles.
There is very clear alarm about what is happening in Russian channels as it took them by surprise.
Another interesting aspect of this attack has been the willingness of Russian troops there to surrender to the Ukrainians. Video of Russians walking towards Ukrainians with hands in the air is very clear.
Why did they choose capture over simply running the other away into Russia?
A pair of tanks being driven to the village of Suzcha to help the Russians were blown up before they could even unload from their transports.
It’s also become clear that Russian units such as 75079 and its barracks were hit and destroyed as part of the preliminary operation.
There is also compelling evidence that at least two Russian Ka-52 attack helicopters were shot down - a rare sight these days as most were destroyed.
The purpose of the operation seems to more of a raid and disruption operation to distract the Russians and remind them that while they keep trying to frighten Ukraine with special forces raids and threats to expand the war, two can play at that game.
I don’t personally see any real point to these raids unless they have a very specific purpose in mind such as the capture of some key piece of equipment. To me these are troops and forces that could have been better employed elsewhere.
Even if it forces Russia to divert some effort it’s hardly going to change the situation much elsewhere on the front.
Still there we are, it’s happening and we’ll see how it pans out.
