Swedish Navy find dozens of kilometers of drag marks in the wake of the Eagle S ship – an anchor was found next to it - Yle
The Finnish National Criminal Police will begin an investigation into the anchor today. The anchor was lifted by the Swedish naval ship Belos.
– The anchor was found on the route taken by the Eagle S, near Porkkalanniemi, says the general director of the investigation, Chief Criminal Inspector Risto Lohi of the Central Criminal Police Office, in a statement.
– The anchor was located at the western end of the drag mark found on the seabed, close to where the drag mark ends.
According to Yle, the anchor was found very deep, with water levels up to 80 meters deep at the discovery site.
The Finnish Coast Guard suspects that the anchor of the Eagle S oil tanker severed an electrical cable between Finland and Estonia and damaged four data cables. The police suspect eight members of the Eagle S crew of aggravated sabotage and aggravated interference with telecommunications.
