🔥In Engels, Russia, at the oil depot hit by Ukrainian drones the situation is deteriorating. The fire continues and has reportedly spread to other tanks.
Over the past 24 hours, firefighters have tried to use foam to stop the fire with no success. Now, they are reportedly expecting reinforcements and other equipment to arrive from neighboring regions and will try again. If the attempt is not successful, they are simply planning to let the oil reserves burn out.
The oil refinery stored kerosene fuel used by the Russian Air Force stationed at the airfield nearby. The bombers and fighter jets from Engels are routinely used in Russia’s attacks on Ukraine. Reportedly, the airfield is already experiencing a fuel shortage.
Screening of Russian Propaganda Film “Maidan: Turn to War” Canceled in Italy — Zmina
The planned screening of the Russian propaganda film Maidan: Turn to War on January 18 in Arezzo, Tuscany, has been canceled, announced Arezzo Mayor Alessandro Ghinelli.
The film, produced by Russia Today, was to feature two propagandists: Andrea Lucidi, living in Russia since 2022, and Vincenzo Lorusso, who translated the film into Italian. Russian media speculate their involvement may have led to the cancellation.
The event was organized by Michele Menchetti, a local councilor from the Five Star Movement, who criticized the decision. Menchetti claimed the screening was part of his "information and educational activities" and recently called on the government to stop sending weapons to Ukraine. He vowed to find alternative venues to show the film.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s State Film Agency urged the Ukrainian Embassy in Italy to prevent screenings of Russian propaganda films like Maidan: Turn to War and Children of Donbas in Italy.
The agency expressed concern that these films distort the events of the Revolution of Dignity and the Russian-Ukrainian war, spreading disinformation and manipulating public opinion, especially during Ukraine's ongoing war.
In Slovakia, Robert Fico’s party has echoed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s stance by threatening to block Ukraine’s EU membership. Both leaders seem aligned in their rhetoric, creating obstacles for Kyiv while advancing narratives favorable to the Kremlin.
The Hlas party has joined this trend, criticizing Ukraine’s decision to stop Russian gas transit as a “breach of trust.” They are pushing for the issue to be addressed at the next coalition council. Their statement mirrors Hungarian Foreign Ministry claims and includes threats to reconsider Slovakia’s support for Ukraine’s EU accession.
“If President Zelenskyy wishes to be seen as a partner, he must act accordingly,” the Slovak populists declared, overlooking Fico’s own divisive actions and statements that undermine solidarity within the EU.
Gas reserves for the population in the self-proclaimed Transnistria will last only 24 days, according to Sergei Obolonik, the “Minister of Economic Development.”
He stated that the region is facing an energy and humanitarian crisis. The 13 million cubic meters of reserved gas are being used to supply social institutions and essential facilities.
Currently, daily consumption, even under strict conservation measures, stands at 270,000 cubic meters.
Earlier projections indicated that gas supplies in the southern part of the region would last until January 20, while the northern areas were expected to face shortages as early as January 10.
