As if nepotism wasn’t bad enough, corruption and incompetence now rule supreme at the defence ministry in Moscow.
Putin has appointed his niece, billionaire and chairman of the Kolmar Coal Mine conglomerate, Anna Tsivileva as a Deputy Defence Minister. She is the wife of the Minister of Energy. Pavel Fradkov, who happens to be the son of the Prime Minister, has now been appointed as another Deputy Defence Minister.
Neither of these two has any knowledge or understanding of defence or military issues.
It’s all about control, retaining the ruling cadres power and influence no matter what it looks like or really amounts to in benefitting the state - as long as it benefits the leadership.
Meanwhile the Russian squadron of 1 Frigate and 1 Yasen Class SSN parading around Cuba, showed yet more Russian weakness as observers (me being one of the nerds that spotted it), noticed that a huge chunk of the anechoic tiling had dropped off near the waterline at the bow of the submarine.
We’re talking a chunk of tiling that measures roughly 1.2m long, 1.8m deep at one end and 0.6m the other - and it’s easily 10-15cm into the hull.
Submarines are supposed to be quiet, and I can tell you that the noise this will generate underwater is, in acoustic detection terms, like a rock band playing out loud. That sub is going to be detected wherever it goes until it’s fixed. So much for the mighty Russian navy.
There’s another piece of a similar size missing in the zone just in front of the conning tower. .
It's amazing how war has changed with the advent of the drone. Battery powered charging stations are now a vital military item.
