Belarus and Iran congratulated Ukraine on Independence Day
Belarus and Iran have both sent their congratulations to Ukraine on its 33rd year of independence from the former Soviet Union, despite the two countries' close ties with russia.
According to Belarusian newsagency Belta, president Aleksandr Lukashenko said his citizens have "always had a special respect and warm regard" for the Ukrainian people.
"We are united not only by the common fate and family ties, but also by the desire to be friends and get along with neighbours," he was cited as saying.
Belarus acted as a staging post for russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and Mr Lukashenko is one of Vladimir Putin's key allies.
Meanwhile, the Iranian foreign ministry published a message on social media saying it was congratulating the government and people of Ukraine on its independence.
Tehran is alleged to have provided Moscow with hundreds of deadly drones, as well as other weapons, for use in its war on Ukraine.

On August 25, the russians targeted an emergency vehicle with an FPV drone while it was evacuating people from Ukraine's Pokrovsk district, according to the Donetsk State Emergency Service.

At the time of the attack, two rescuers, a policeman, and four civilians, including an eight-year-old child, were inside the vehicle.

Fortunately, no one was injured, though the armoured car sustained damage.

Anyone who targets emergency vehicles, emergency workers or those in their care is seriously sick in the head!!!

Syrskyi: Ukraine seized 1,300 square meters kilometers of territory and 594 POWs in the Kursk region

Ukrainian troops seized about 1,300 square kilometers and 100 settlements in the Kursk sector and captured 594 russian soldiers. This was stated by Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“As of today, we continue to make progress. As of today, we have taken control of 1,294 square kilometers of territory and 100 settlements located on this territory. We have also significantly replenished the exchange fund. Ukrainian troops have captured 594 servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces in this sector so far,”
Syrskyi reported.

He noted that the start of the operation was dictated by the intention to stop the constant shelling of the Sumy region from the territory of the Kursk region.

By early August, russia had concentrated a significant number of its troops in the border area and was planning an offensive. Given this, it was decided to act proactively and create a security zone, launching its own offensive on August 6.

For its part, the enemy is trying to counter the advance of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kursk region. russia is pulling its troops from other areas and has already amassed a group of about 30,000 people, and this number is growing.

The Commander-in-Chief stated that one of the objectives of the offensive in the Kursk region was to divert significant enemy forces from other areas. First of all, from Pokrovske and Kurakhove.

“Despite this, the enemy is trying not to withdraw units from other areas. On the contrary, he is increasing his efforts in the Pokrovsk sector. We are also concentrating our main forces and means in this area,”
he noted.

Syrskyi said that the situation in the Pokrovsk sector is currently quite complex. In recent weeks, an average of more than 50 military clashes have been taking place daily. The enemy is using its advantage in manpower, weapons, and military equipment. However, in general, offensive actions are carried out by infantry assault groups.

“The enemy is trying to seize a section of the Kostiantynivka – Pokrovsk highway, intending to disrupt the logistics of the Defense Forces,” he said. However, he noted that the advance comes at a high price. The enemy loses up to 300 soldiers on average every day.

To continue operating in this area, russia started to transfer its units to the Kursk region, even from the Kaliningrad region.

PALIANYTSIA & MODI

More information about the significant new jet powered drone came to light. The most significant piece information being that the warhead is an air burst cluster munition - that spreads and accelerates the bomblets which allows more damage over a much wider area. The range seems to be around 600-800km.
Also why PALIANYTSIA? Apparently it’s a type of bread that has a distinct pronunciation in Ukrainian. So much so that a native Russian speaker cannot pronounce it correctly and it’s one of the quickest ways to identify a Russian from a Ukrainian.

Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, visited Kyiv last week. He was welcomed and given all the usual honours attached to his status as head of government. Some important agricultural deals were signed much to the benefit of Ukraine.
During the visit Modi offered to mediate between Ukraine and Russia and urged dialogue to end the war.
The temerity of the guy is almost beyond cringeworthy.
He flies to Kyiv, he must have access to the information on the war and he knows who started it. Yet he has absolutely no sympathy of concern for Ukraine at all.
Does he not realise that India - currently Russia’s largest crude oil customer - exceeding China - is directly and deliberately funding the war against Ukraine? And he stands there and asks them to talk? As though it’s their fault in the first place and Putin is just doing what he needs to do.
India has many reasons to be friendly with Russia, most of them post-colonial.
Like a lot of countries Indians were - though few are now - educated in Soviet universities and Russia was seen as an anti-colonial power (though that wasn’t really true then and it certainly isn’t now, they were just using anti-colonialism to spread communism).
India was a huge buyer of Russian arms - they were cheap and plentiful but since the war India has in effect, been cut off from its primary arms supplier.
Trade between Russia and India that isn’t oil is so small as to be statistically irrelevant.
Indian currency isn’t something Russia wants because it can’t buy anything it needs in India, and the Indians won’t pay in rubles for their oil because banking sanctions or the risk of, severely complicate issues. India has to use third and even fourth party countries to pay the Russians, though lately theirs been an increasing use of crypto currency - so much so that Russia is changing its laws to allow crypto trading on a much wider scale as its economy continues to buckle under the strain of fiscal sanctions.
Yet it’s Modi’s willingness and the ease in which he happily walks into Kyiv, all smiles and hugs and has just days before embraced Putin. He sees no irony in what India is doing. He, an elected democratic head of government cannot see past his blinders about Russia. They are both to blame in his eyes. And he sees Ukraine as a western puppet and just another example, of the never ending East-West conflict that’s raged since 1945.
Frankly I find it unforgivable that India behaves as it does. They know the difference between right and wrong and yet they sit aside and play both sides against the middle. More interested in playing mediating statesmen for their own prestige than doing what is right - while at the same time funding and prolonging the war through oil purchases in the most opportunistic and callous way possible.

TELEGRAM AND RUSSIA

The arrest of Pavel Durov in Paris has sent waves of fury through Moscow.
Durov, Telegram founder, fled to the UAE in 2014. Durov has joint French-Emirati  Citizenship having apparently given up his Russian citizenship.
So why was he arrested? Basically Telegram has a dark side - a very dark side - ranging from the worst kind of pornography to drug dealing. France claims he’s been arrested for failing to cooperate in dealing with these issues.
We also know that Telegram was used to facilitate the recent  riots in the UK.
On top of that Telegram is widely used by Russia for military communications.  So much so that Ukrainian soldiers are banned from using it to communicate.
Durov is no longer the sole owner of the platform either. The Moscow based Sogov Group - who have close ties to the Kremlin also hold a sizeable stake in the company.
If you weren’t aware, just about every other platform - Signal being the nearest to it for example, was banned in Russia. Yet despite Durov not being a Russian citizen and having been on the exiled list, it seems we have a touch of what’s known as Hotel California Syndrome going on - ‘you can check out, but you can never leave’. Durov may have checked out of Russia but did he ever - could he ever leave? Truly, fully leave?
Moscow seems to think not. Paris has been humming with Russian diplomatic efforts to get access to him. Why if he doesn’t matter to them? Even Russian press has been lauding him as some kind of hero and almost as a hostage to western imperialism. Yet he’s not even a citizen anymore.
I don’t know how many of you were aware of how heavily Russian controlled the platform is indirectly - I thought it was common knowledge. Apparently not so much. I chose to use it because of that, because it was in effect using Russian resources to get to Russians - we have a few trolls who come here all the time - I know who they are - you can see them when they make their emojis for the opposite of what anyone else would emote about.
Using Telegram is a way to get news to Russian sources both good and bad.
Do I like the fact that it has such a dark side? No. But then in their own way every single social media platform going has something wrong with it. Some like X are especially poor, but others like Facebook will take money from anyone to ply their lies and fraudulent schemes. TikTok is little more than a Chinese data mining platform.
You have to exploit them as much as they want to exploit you.
Russia providing the platform to discuss its own destruction at the hands of the nation it invaded? Sounds like a bargain to me.
@ukrainejournal

Russia loves to manufacture its own history and erase that which doesn't fall into line with its own claims. Hey lets take a look at the mural painted in Mariupol that was painted by an Italian painter Ciro Cerullo on request from the Russian government. The one that depicts who they claimed was a little girl named Nastya from the Donbas.... With NATO bombs falling behind her.

HER MOTHER WHO IS AUSTRALIAN wasn't exactly happy when she realized that they used a photo of HER daughter from a photography magazine from years prior.

And meanwhile, they covered up an actual mural in Mariupol of a little girl who lost her leg and her mother to russian bombs 😡😡😡
