russia repurposes nuclear forces personnel as infantry amid manpower shortages
russia has formed anantry regiment from Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) personnel – traditionally operators of nuclear launch facilities – for deployment in its war against Ukraine, according to Militarnyi‘s report on 22 October.

In a recent video, russian volunteer Vladimir Grubnik, supporting russia’s army, revealed that “the 1st Strategic Missile Forces regiment is now performing tasks of a regular separate infantry regiment in the Kursk direction.” He noted that the unit is fighting as a conventional infantry force with small arms, organized into separate battalions.

In July 2023, despite her lack of combat experience, she joined the 59th Separate Motorised Infantry Brigade named after Yakiv Handziuk to defend the state against the russian invaders. She was repeatedly honoured by the military command for her conscientious service. She was killed on 18 June.

The nine hundred and seventy-fourth day of large-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine has begun.
The situation at the front remains difficult. The enemy, using their advantage in manpower and equipment, is relentlessly attacking our positions. Ukrainian defenders steadfastly restrained the onslaught of the occupiers and inflicted significant losses on the enemy.
In total, 148 combat clashes were recorded during the past day.
According to detailed information, yesterday the enemy struck the positions of Ukrainian units and populated areas with one rocket attack using one rocket, as well as 89 airstrikes, in particular, dropping 154 anti-aircraft missiles. In addition, it carried out more than 4,000 attacks, 86 of them from rocket salvo systems, and engaged more than 1,500 kamikaze drones for destruction.
The aggressor carried out airstrikes, in particular, in the areas of the settlements of Malushyne, Mogrytsia, Shalygine, Luhivka, Velyka Pisarivka, Bezruky, Kozacha Lopan, Liptsi, Shevyakivka, Sotnytskyi Kozachok, Kupyansk, Antonivka, Dalnye, Tverdohlibove, Terny, Lyman, Chasiv Yar.
Over the past day, aviation, missile forces and artillery of the Defense Forces hit two enemy control points, three areas of concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment, and five enemy artillery systems.
In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy stormed nine times near the settlements of Vovchansk and Tykh.
In the Kupyan direction, there were nine attacks by invaders during the day. The defense forces repelled enemy assaults near Pishchany, Kruglyakivka, Stepova Novoselevka, Lozova, Vyshnevoy, and Pershotravnevo.
The enemy attacked 12 times in the Lyman direction. He tried to penetrate our defenses near Grekivka, Terna, Novomykhailivka, Torske, and Serebryanka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the occupiers attacked five times in the areas of Stupochy, Bila Hora and Hryhorivka.
In the direction of Toretsk, the enemy launched six attacks in the direction of Toretsk and Nelipivka.
In the Pokrovsky direction, our defenders stopped 38 assault and offensive actions of the aggressor in the areas of Selidovoy, Novotoretsk, Lysivka, Sukhoi Balka, Promeny, Sukhoi Yar, Krutoy Yar, Myrolyubivka, Krasny Yar and Mykhailivka settlements. The greatest concentration of enemy attacks was near Selidovoy. The enemy actively used bombing and attack aircraft for strikes on the direction.
In the Kurakhiv direction, the Defense Forces repelled 34 attacks. The occupiers most actively tried to advance near Katerynivka and Kreminnaya Balka. In addition, the enemy attacked in the direction of Antonivka, Novodmytrivka, Novoselidivka, Kostyantynivka, Zoryanyi, Hostroy and Dalnyi, and actively used aviation.
In the Vremivsk direction, the enemy carried out five assaults on our positions in the Bogoyavlenka, Novoukrainka, and Zolotaya Niva areas.
In the Orihiv direction, one unsuccessful enemy attack was repulsed by our defenders during the day near Novodanilivka.
Four times, the invading troops unsuccessfully tried to dislodge units of the Defense Forces from their positions in the Dnieper direction.
The operation is ongoing in the Kursk region. Enemy aviation continues to raze their villages and cities to the ground. Over the past day, Russian aircraft have carried out 38 airstrikes with 55 anti-aircraft missiles on their own territory.
No signs of the formation of offensive groups of the enemy were detected in the Volyn and Poliske directions.
On the border with the Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions, the enemy from the territory of the Russian Federation is actively using artillery and aviation in the areas of Ukrainian settlements.
Our soldiers inflict significant losses in manpower and equipment on the occupying forces and actively undermine the offensive potential of the enemy in the rear.

Another war crime of the russian federation near Selidovoy - an investigation into the murder of 4 captured soldiers of the NGU has been launched
Under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation was started in criminal proceedings on the fact of violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder.
According to operational data, on October 6, 2024, four soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine performed service and combat tasks at positions in the Selidove area. Around 1:00 p.m., the occupying forces launched an assault on the fortifications, during which they captured our defenders. Later, representatives of the Armed Forces of the russian federation recorded the interrogation of the wounded, unarmed National Guardsmen on video.
The next day, the Defense Forces regained lost positions and, during search operations, discovered the bodies of killed Ukrainian servicemen.

🇷🇴⚠️ Romania's radar systems detected two separate signals, likely from drones, breaching its national airspace. They scrambled fighter jets, but somehow did not find them - Reuters
The two signals were picked up by radar less than one hour apart flying above the southeastern counties of Constanta and Tulcea, the latter bordering Ukraine across the Danube River.
THE KAZAN DECLARATION
Putin has not, yet again, gotten his way at the latest BRICS summit in Russia.
Chinese leader Xi (whose internal position at home is believed to have been severely weakened by the military and may be on weaker political ground than he has been for years), called for deescalation and warned third parties not to get involved - a Chinese rebuke of N.Korea.
The Iranians declared themselves committed to closer ties to Russia and China - hoping perhaps for some kind of diplomatic and military support as they sit waiting for an Israeli strike. Nothing was forthcoming.
The Brazilian president is said to have conveniently fallen in the bath and didn’t go at all.
If Putin thought he was going to strengthen or gain any international leverage for a change in the World Order - which is what he keeps trying to make happen, nothing changed.
While these countries try to act like they’re unified in some purpose, they’re often as opposed to each other - China and India for example - as they are in sharing any common goal that goes beyond meaningless words.
BRICS has lofty goals and yet has achieved nothing. Many of the democratic members are firm neutrals on the global stage and don’t want in on Autocracy Inc. They have no desire to support Ukraine and the west but they also don’t want to be seen supporting naked aggression.
Putin was desperate to be seen on the world stage as a viable recognised leader not on the pariah state list. He may have managed that in state controlled propaganda land, but Kazan has changed nothing inside the global order.
These countries are too disparate and even Russia and China have serious differences under the surface.
Once the war is over Russia will have to face the consequences of its over reliance on China and how it’s become a second class member of that alliance. It needs China, China doesn’t need it.
