Ukrainian hackers hacked the work computer of the commander of the Russian army in Zaporozhye.

Hackers from the Cyber Resistance and KibOrg groups managed to install spyware on the PC of the commander of Russian troops in the Zaporozhye direction in 2023, Colonel-General Alexander Romanchuk. The virus spread to other devices at the headquarters, which made it possible for the Ukrainian side to receive classified information from the Ministry of Defense for more than a year and a half. Some of the information was passed on to the Center for National Resistance (CNS) of Ukraine, which published some details.

Russian propaganda sources have previously portrayed Romanchuk as a heroic general, the CNS notes. Included him in the list of "the most talented Russian commanders", calling him a key figure in the Russian defense in Zaporozhye in 2023, and that he proved himself a "hero" back in Syria.

However, according to the data received by the CNS, the command under the leadership of Romanchuk did not take into account the losses in Zaporozhye at all. Statistics provided by Captain Vyacheslav Dondokov, head of the 42nd Medical Battalion, showed that only one medical group treated more than 1.100 wounded per month. At least 11 such groups operated in Zaporizhzhia, which indicates serious losses among troops - about 12.000 wounded alone every month.

But Romanchuk paid little attention to hostilities in the direction entrusted to him, the CNS points out. He spent most of his working time looking at real estate ads, choosing cars, meeting girls and games, and after the release of the series "The Word of a Boy", he became his fan.

Also, Romanchuk's correspondence with Captain Roman Malyshev shows that the general actively controlled information about himself in the media, demanding to "deal with" critical milbloggers. "Two Majors" and "Thirteenth" raised questions about the shortcomings of Russian forces in Zaporizhzhia; Romanchuk considered them to be "saboteurs"

Thanks to Romanchuk, the hackers gained access to other devices of the headquarters of the Russian group in Zaporizhzhia, which, according to the CNS, allowed the Armed Forces of Ukraine to learn about CCTV cameras, the locations of warehouses, observation posts and other strategic facilities of the Russian troops. In addition, internal documentation of the headquarters was received, including combat reports and other data.

It also turned out that the son of the Colonel-General, Volodymyr Romanchuk, having a military education, does not participate in hostilities. Instead, in the summer of 2023, while fierce fighting was going on on the Zaporozhye front, he traveled abroad, visiting China and Kyrgyzstan, and dancing merrily to K-pop.

Closing the Skies, Liberating Ukraine - Helsinki Commission Congressional Hearing

This Helsinki Commission Hearing examines how, to enable Ukrainian progress in the near- to medium-term, Western military aid must be purposeful and tied to a concrete and actionable theory of Ukrainian victory. The hearing features key experts on Ukraine and its defensive needs, ongoing battlefield dynamics, and policy recommendations to inform the development of future military aid packages.

Long range munitions can destroy key russian offensive capabilities and disrupt its sustainment infrastructure; multi-layered air defense can protect Ukrainian cities and deny russia the air dominance their forces depend upon; and targeted Ukrainian attacks against russian military targets in occupied Ukraine, and in russia itself, can help degrade the russian war economy and boost Ukrainian morale.

With a military unable to compete with Ukrainian defenders on equal footing on the battlefield, russian forces have resorted to employing overwhelming mass of men and materiel, sustained in large part with munitions, drones, and technological inputs from Iran, North Korea, and China. To counteract these russian advantages, Western aid should not only allow Ukrainian forces to hold the line, but to degrade and destroy fixed russian positions, enable offensive operations, and effect general exhaustion and collapse among russian units.

Russian forces entered Kupiansk with two columns of vehicles yesterday

The first column, comprising two MT-LBs, a BMP, and a tank, suffered losses; one MT-LB was hit in the forest, and another reached Svatovska Street before being struck on Nekrasova Street, where about 15 soldiers disembarked and scattered into nearby buildings. The tank was also hit further north.
