FRONTLINE UPDATE 4-5 JAN

The only but worryingly significant advance made by the Russians is a future gain from several made just before Christmas. They have managed to push across farmland towards Terny in what is left of Ukrainian controlled Luhansk Oblast.
The advances have been sudden and substantial, as the Russians are heading towards the Sherivets River.
Russia also is believed to have made an advance in the Serabianski forest - almost 1.5km.
One reason the Ukrainians are withdrawing so readily is they have less than 10% of the artillery ammo they had a month ago.
The Russians have made more small gains above the Stepove front - which puts pressure on the forces further south.
Russian forces also made advances into some of the dachas north of Avdivka closer to the coking plant.
Russia has made small advances from Marinka towards their next target at Hoarivka.
Russians used a 1500kg bomb to try and clear mines in Novomikhaiyivka.
Elsewhere the rest of the front seems relatively stable.
The Russians are having a hard time around the Kherson front - EW warfare is crippling Russian efforts to function and the Ukrainians have notable dominance- the Russians hate it but can’t do anything about it.
Clearly the ammunition supply without US aid and the Western allies failing to supply what they said they would, is having an impact. Yet the Ukrainians are making up for the loss of shells with drones and mines they can produce themselves to hinder Russian movements.
The Ukrainian Air Force also managed to hit a command post in occupied Crimea along with an air defence system.
The US stated yesterday that it is now out of funds for Ukraine until Congress authorises a new aid package. This is being negotiated and is part of a whole raft of urgent measures that need to be voted on in the coming weeks.
