US military bases in Europe put on high alert due to the threat of terrorist attacks.

According to CNN reports, the United States has put several American military bases in Europe, including the headquarters of the command in Germany, on high alert over the weekend, with the level of force protection raised to its second-highest state.

The threat level was raised to the level called "Charlie" and “applies when an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating some form of terrorist action or targeting against personnel or facilities is likely.”

A U.S. official who is based in Europe told the TV channel that they had not seen such a thing "in at least 10 years", and said it usually means the military has received an “active-reliable threat,” that is the military received reliable information about the impending attack.

In addition to the headquarters of the European Command of the US Armed Forces (USEUCOM) in Stuttgart, Germany, the Rhineland-Palatinate and Ramstein air bases with facilities in Romania and Bulgaria, as well as the Aviano base in Italy, received directives on the need to increase combat readiness, writes Stars and Stripes.

The order provides for the strengthening of security measures and checks at checkpoints. The servicemen were instructed to report any suspicious activity and take precautions.

What exactly caused the increase in the combat readiness of the bases, the US Army leadership did not report. European Command spokesman Dan Day declined to comment on on specific force protection levels, but said that USEUCOM "constantly evaluates various factors that affect the security of the US military contingent abroad" and "takes additional measures" as part of these efforts.

Hundreds of RAF flights had GPS jammed by Russia.

Russia has jammed the GPS on hundreds of RAF flights over Eastern Europe this year, The Telegraph can reveal.

More than one in four transport and surveillance flights in the first four months of 2024 were subject to GPS [global positioning system] interference, analysis of data from thousands of flights has shown.

Detailed analysis shows how the indiscriminate jamming can threaten the safety of military and civil flights alike, experts said, demonstrates the extent of Russia’s interference with aviation.

Grant Shapps, the Defence Secretary, said: “This is another example of Russia’s recklessness and more evidence that they are an out-of-control hostile state.

“Thankfully our planes and pilots can see off this threat but it illustrates president Putin’s contempt for the West and for the international rules-based order.”

Ian Petchenik, a spokesman for Flight Radar 24, which shared the flight data with The Telegraph, said: “GPS jamming can create substantial headaches for operators, disrupting navigation systems and increasing pilot workload in congested airspace near conflict zones. Mitigating these risks is essential to air safety.”

In March, an RAF jet carrying Mr Shapps home from Poland had its GPS jammed by Russia.

A defence source said at the time that the jamming was “directly related to Putin and the attack on Ukraine and the sensitivities around Kaliningrad”.

The Telegraph’s analysis of data from Flight Radar 24 looked at flights carried out by 63 RAF aircraft between Jan 1 and April 30, totalling 1.467 journeys across Eastern Europe and the Middle East. 45,7% of the flights in the Middle East, 28,7% in Eastern Europe and 16,4% were impacted by patterns associated with GPS jamming.

Stoltenberg: "The Most Urgent Task at the NATO Summit Will Be to Support Ukraine"

This was announced by the head of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg four days before the opening of the NATO summit.

"I expect that the heads of state and government will agree on a substantial package of measures for Ukraine. NATO will take on the coordination and delivery of the bulk of international security assistance, with a three-star general in command and several hundred people working at NATO headquarters in Germany and in logistics hubs in the eastern part of the Alliance," the statement said.

He also noted that the allies will take on new financial commitments to Ukraine.

The Secretary General also expects an increase in direct military support, the conclusion of new bilateral security agreements, and work to deepen military interoperability.

The summit, timed to coincide with NATO's 75th anniversary, will be held from July 9 to 11 in Washington.
