Writing is an essential component of being an academic.

It's impossible to get around out if you want to stay in academia.

But if you strip away the pressure that comes with academic writing you'll find that it can be both useful and fun to write.

I know I was skeptical at first too.

"There's no way writing can be fun." I thought.

But here are 3 ways I've made writing a lot more fun myself.

Again not talking about academic writing ... that will never be fun 😅

1. Journaling

Despite being used for mental clarity and reflection, journaling can also be fun.

You'd be surprised at the kind of thought-provoking journal prompts you can find that help you learn more about yourself like:

What does “time well spent” mean to you?

2. Sci/fi Fantasy World-Building

Not saying you need to publish Harry Potter but if you're like me and find yourself thinking of interesting worlds then it might be cool to write those ideas.

My current idea is "Hunter X Hunter" + "Harry Potter" + pirate folklore.

3. Writing Comedy

Think you're funny enough to make people laugh?
Try writing something whether a tweet or a meme and posting it.

I started making memes for TSS a while ago and never looked back.

It's still one of my favorite things to do and people seem to enjoy them.

TL;DR: Write Something for Fun

1. Journaling
2. Sci/fi Fantasy World-Building

3. Writing Comedy

So with that said.

Hope this post has inspired and provided you with some info on how to get started writing for fun this year.

Good luck and have fun this year everyone.
