University of Southern Denmark ( https://www.sdu.dk/ ) is undergoing severe budget cuts. Unfortunately, one of the areas they intend on shutting down is the language technology research division - which is where I work.

We are appealing the plan, because we find it absurd to cut away a fundamental resource and research area that underpins so many other uses, especially given how the news has been inundated with langtech darling ChatGPT and its ilk in the past months.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves ( https://imdb.com/title/tt2906216/ ) is not the same movie that the trailers or even the poster claims it is. It's an almost entirely different story. In many ways it more accurately resembles how an actual game of D&D might meander, but that doesn't excuse it from just not being very good. Sadly, yet another D&D movie not really worth the time. Rating 5/10.

John Wick: Chapter 4 ( https://imdb.com/title/tt10366206/ ) is fine. It's very long, but, and I know how it sounds, too much time is spent on action scenes. Could've been much better balanced. Clearly a talented cast and crew, but it doesn't rise above the prior movies. Rating 7/10.

Turns out, #Duolingo might actually be good. I've tried several free introductory #Japanese apps over the past 2 weeks, and Duolingo is so far the best. Seriously considering paying for the thing, even though I use the ad-free and gamification-reduced web version.

#Avatar: The Way of Water (3D HFR, https://imdb.com/title/tt1630029/ ) was almost, but not quite, entirely a waste of time. Over 3 hours of footage that looks and feels like video game cutscenes, with one interesting character (Kiri). Rating 4/10.
