If I have been “deplatformed” from twitter I can no longer speak on twitter.
Obviously someones ability to “speak” isn’t removed. I still have my mouth and my brain…I can still talk to people. But my ability to speak, in this case on a specific website, is ultimately limited.
I’m still not sure why its okay to do this when, if its so obvious why we should deplatform someone, that we can just tell others why they are wrong.
@futurebird I agree that “just allow everything” isn’t a good sentiment, but individuals should be allowed to sort out a majority of information for themselves and be able to openly debate why someone is incorrect.
You lose both of those things when you remove a a person’s ability to speak.
Additionally, you encourage others to move into echo chambers which I personally think makes things far worse.

Deplatforming is great until it happens to you
I’m thinking of trying to learn piano again.
I played piano, sax and violin at different times when I was younger but hated practicing because I’d get embarrassed when my mom came to listen.
Maybe I can actually learn and practice some so I can play something nice for her this time
Just finished playing SIGNALIS. Probably one of the first times I took significant interest in a games world lore. Despite being short I would recommend it to any old school survival horror fans or lovecraft enthusiasts.

Something that people don't seem to appreciate is that unless we get justice for the creation and leaking of COVID, it'll happen again. Why wouldn't it? It was so incredibly profitable, for pharma and "essential businesses".
All the evidence is there. It's like catching a serial killer and they say "well the victim is already dead, so what difference does it make at this point to lock me up? It's just more suffering." So the police agree and let them go, then later suprisedpikachu.jpg
I'd think the notion of "the next COVID" would motivate people, but truth and confronting powerful interests makes them uncomfortable.

please stop using discord for anything.
there's a (free! and open source!) federated option that is far better (sure, nothing is perfect).
if you hate what's happened to musksite and came to fediverse, you _should_ move your discord communities/activities to a federated alternative.
many clients, some choice of server software, federation, and, most importantly, nodes/instances with their own rules.
