The [NYTimes published an article on which steel plants make the most pollution](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/09/climate/climate-change-emissions-satellites.html) and it looks like China is by far the worst. But this map doesn't tell the whole story. Who is buying and using that steel from China? If a substantial portion of that steel is sold to the west then that pollution should really be attributed to the client countries, not the manufacturing countries (or at least show both maps).

Here is my #introduction. I am a biologist interested in #neuroscience and the #evolution of cells and nervous systems. My research group studies #ciliated marine larvae from a whole-organism perspective, combining behaviour, #connectomics, #imaging, #CRISPR, #modelling and other approaches. We love marine #larvae, their #neurons, #cilia, and #neuropeptides.
I little bit prouder today of my institution. MIT is hosting its own #mastodon server

See you there soon
Very delicate and cautious and humble and melancholic text on what it means that thousands (millions?) of latecomers like me enter the #mastodon party now.

TIP OF THE DAY
If your instance server is having a hard time right now, don't freak out.
You do not need to change servers. Mastodon is getting a huge influx of new users and they are all working tirelessly to add capacity. If you are otherwise happy with your instance, trust that they will get things working smoothly. Give them some time to sort things out.
We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.

During COP27, we urge the Egyptian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release all those held simply for peacefully exercising their human rights, implementing criteria set by local NGOs for these releases: fairness, transparency, inclusiveness and urgency. One of these prisoners is Alaa Abd El-Fattah, who is now on a water strike since the beginning of COP27. (thread)
Awesome thing about working in #London : looking up! London is a city of trees and fascinating architecture. Lunchtime meetings in Westminster = an excuse to be a tourist in your home city. 🫶
