So i noticed i don't necessarily need to agree with a toot to favourite it.
I just favd a toot from @tripu because he explained his thoughts well and thus made a reasonable discussion possible - something i value.
While i agree with the decision not to have a "downvote" button because it stops a lot of low-effort grief, this makes it all the more important to fav toots that actually make an effort to explain a point. Just to offset that toots dismissing all reason cannot be downvoted.

So it's the glass half full on Mastodon and half empty on other platforms?

I like the positivity and the appreciation of sides saying either, "I like this idea" or "I don't like the idea, but at least it's an idea."

@professorsevier @tripu I don't fully understand what you are implying. You generally tend to be very short in your answers.
What other platforms are you talking about?

To elaborate, since i am not so short in my answers:
What i meant here was that the structure of mastodon makes it important to show appreciation. In contrast to other platforms that have a "downvote", which reward negativity so much that positivity is not needed so much... just don't hate, you have the same effect as someone that favorites on masto. Only with masses of haters that have another effect...

@admitsWrongIfProven @tripu

by platforms I mean for media/social and others that make you feel connected even though you aren't.

I'm agreeing with you on so many levels, just using the slang I was so lovingly indoctrinated with.

@professorsevier nice. it seemed adversarial, but we do seem to share common ground. Was worth the wait. Take care, i'll be heading to bed now.
