In rural Australia in the 1940s, my mother had rocks thrown at her and was branded a 'communist' because her father, a school headmaster, advocated for establishing a public library.
In the Canadian province where I now reside, the Catholic Church controlled libraries -- and thus access to information -- until the 1960s.
We forget how recent the democratisation of knowledge is -- how transformative such institutions were and how hard-won.
We should not part with them easily.
@Timdmackey It's always the usual suspects. There are powerful interests who like things exactly the way they are right now, and as long as the Right Wing Hate-media keep ringing Pavlov's bell, the far-right dogs will keep barking at any progress. I call them The Zombies From Planet Murdoch.
@futurebird
I think they must have changed the algorithm again or something. Lately I've been getting recommendations for stuff that they should know that I would never watch in a million years. 15 years of training the algorithm what I want to watch, and they still try and force religion and right wing politics on me. I have complained, and will keep complaining. I already got rid of cable. If I have to get rid of youtube, I won't have anything left except for Pirate Bay.
Give up your belief that someone will stop this. No one has stopped this. You need to act. You need to impress upon everyone you know to act.
If this isn't the America you know, insist upon that being true. Don't just assume it can't get that bad. It is. It has.
@Sardonicus Believe it or not, I've been thinking about watching that. How is it?
You won't see a better music video than this today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRBr1QRe5ls
