I couldn't figure out why my website wasn't verified ... I had added the html. Turns out I didn't push the changes 🤦

I have encountered more image descriptions on Mastodon in 24 hours than I have in Twitter in a couple of years. Seriously. I'm not exaggerating.
As a blind person, this means a lot to me. If you read this and you describe your images, thank you so, so, so much on behalf of all of us. If you don't, now you know you'll be helping random Internet strangers make sense of your posts by typing in a few more words than usual.

Feeling judged by this Downy Woodpecker ... a group of three came to peck at our deck. Yes! we know we need to replace the deck, lumber prices are high, ok? [Photo through a window]

Hello world, again! Since introductions are a thing...

I'm Oliver - I do computer vision and robotics for agriculture, 3D reconstruction and recognition of plant structure.

Also generally computer graphics in general, functional programming.

Also rock climbing, biking and running depending on what I'm into at any point in time.

#Introduction

Hi! I am a CS PhD student at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. I am broadly interested in learning based #robotics to solve problems in #agriculture.

Currently I am working on vision-based navigation of under-canopy agricultural robots (ansivakumar.github.io/learned-). These small robots could enable various precision agriculture applications like autonomous cover crop planting, mechanical weeding etc in an affordable way.

Reasonable folks ask, “Why don’t we have robots to do X?” where X is something like clean the dishes off the table, or dust the cluttered living room shelves, or clean the fridge. The gap between the brass tacks answers to these questions and what most robotics research focuses on is astronomical. It often feels like the immediate blockers are all someone else’s problem to solve.

Hello everyone! I am a #PhD student in #CS at #UCL. I am interested in #AI and #ML. I am also interested in #mathematics and #statistics!

More specifically, I am into #graph neural networks and PAC-Bayes. I am also curious about geometric deep learning, probabilistic modelling, #Bayesian inference and interpretable models.

I'm really looking forward to meeting new people here!

Who am I, and why am I here? #introduction

I am a machine learning researcher, using tools from #Bayes, #stats, #optimization, #informationgeometry, #deeplearning, signal processing, etc.

I care deeply about people, their well-being, inclusion, diversity, equity, privacy, and justice.

I believe in slow and rigorous scientific process, to add value to existing knowledge, and improve positive impact on society.

I am here to learn about all of these.

Bird habit creation for the winter continues ... the kids called it the 'wood monolith' after the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season we're watching. (The hope is that woodpeckers will like it. We'll ... see.)

btw bearded iris blooming in November?? so strange.

#Introductions

Hi! I'm Randy Au. I work as a Quantitative UX Researcher, but used to be a data scientist/analyst. I still write a newsletter about data-related topics every week.... Past couple days I've been zooming around trying to help #data twitter evacuate to Mastodon.

After things calm down, I'll find time to talk about my hobby of having hobbies and peeking at other fields. Some topics include #Japanese stuff, gem cutting, cameras and photography, cooking, DIY, woodwork, and more

PGRs (plant growth regulators): anyone with ref.s / info / exp. about using PGRs to dwarf trees in the landscape?

paclobutrazol seems the most likely. Context:❤ Amer. Sycamore, but it gets huge & trunk hollow, not a good choice next to one's home.

I need to get more still. This was my heavy lens w/o a tripod and so that's challenging.

I'm playing around with video a bit. The peanut feeder is very popular! Here's a downy woodpecker, hanging upside down, pecking away.

[Video alt: the feeder is a wreath-style peanut feeder, hanging from a shepherd's hook-style holder. The bird is small & has its tail propped]
