I think it is understandable. The interface many are familiar with is different, different terms, different functionality. It takes time to get used to.
I spoke to someone from a very large US gov org over the weekend and they are looking into standing up a #Mastodon instance. Would be unusual to see them move so quickly but there are several good reasons to do so. No idea if it will happen but at least its on the radar. Interesting times.
As my first toot on Sciences.Social, I'm excited to share our lab's new PNAS paper--just out today--showing that wealth redistribution promotes happiness. This #MysteryExperiment began when a wealthy couple partnered with
TED to give away $2 million. 300 participants from 7 countries (Kenya, Indonesia, Brazil, Canada, US, UK, & Australia) joined the experiment without knowing what it was about. Then, 200 of them, chosen at random, received $10,000 each...https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2211123119
For academics it is going to be important to search for DOI's on this platform. This means we will need to be able to put a hashtag in front of a DOI. As identified by richvn@mastodon.social @mike and @rmounce this is currently not possible. Indicate your support for this new feature request on the Mastodon github page: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/19992 and boost to reach a wider audience.
mastodon griping I don't understand
An interest driven network does not have to be an echo chamber. Rather the opposite. Because you can follow and be followed from across the fediverse, the diversity and scale of it will not allow that kind of a situation in itself. However, what and whom an individual chooses to follow is another matter.
So an ecochamber is possible as much as an individual might choose or allow, not inevitable.
Do you know about my #Linux #commandline #book https://lym.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ ?

@yuvipanda
😃 well there you go.
Just imagine what could happen, observablehq type notebooks across the fediverse!
I guess I am not entirely clear in my own head, but something like serving jupyter notebooks (say something like Jupypterlite) over the fediverse, as we are sharing text now. Executable codes ...
Looks like this is aligned to my interest. Is there a resource I can refer to?
I am interested to build a jupyterlite (or indeed another tool) for federated data science project. Is there a way to get in touch and progress this?
@freemo
I am sure you've seen this but sharing it here anyway for reference,
https://gitlab.com/federated-git-platform/whitepaper
@freemo
😃 Love it!
@freemo
I mighty like the idea!
Yup. As a matter of fact, that would make sharing data visualisation and analyses a lot better with version control
I would hope that on here everyone who is interested in #ClimateAction can start to really think about what we can do to help the environment etc.
If we can get away from corporate control we may have a better chance to succeed.
@freemo
Right. However, with something like jupyterlite
https://jupyterlite.readthedocs.io/en/latest/
It is possible to create a web based data science environment that can be served over the web. There is also observablehq that allows for dynamic visualisation.
The federated part is similar to this discussion that we have using text, except now live code fragments can be shared and evaluated along with visualisation over the federated instances.
It’s still fuzzy in my head but after working in qoto.org, these possibilities seem realisable, 🙂
##Thoughts on a #fediverse based #data science platform
Say take an instance, put something like jupyterlite on it, and federates across instances. How'd that be?
@freemo what would you say?
