I just welcomed a ton of people to Diaspora*. Most were migrants from G+.

@MOTT You are on diaspora AND here? Thats odd usually people are pretty loyal to one tech or the other. We've been seeing a good influx of people here on qoto as well. But it will be 10 months of this!

@freemo Wow, this is great. Yeah, I am more active on Diaspora* then here. I like the community better there.

There is a specific D* pod for .

@MOTT Isnt Diaspora on the same fediverse as us? So Same community? As far as I know diaspora only supports the older OStatus protocol where mastodon support OStatus, activity streams, and ActivityPub. So only difference is that mastodon can connect with more users that Diaspora cant. At least thats what I remember reading I could be way off on that. If you know the details please share.

@freemo Hm. But I can't find Mastodon accounts on Diaspora*.

@MOTT Right, because diaspora uses obsolete standards. So it can only talk amongst themselves I think. As I understand it I could follow someone from diaspora on here, but someone from diaspora cant find me in a search cause diaspora cant federate using a standard currently employed.

@freemo I look at it this way: Diaspora* is a site for posting larger posts like Facebook, and Mastodon is microblogging like Twitter.

Also, how can I follow a Diaspora* user from here?

@MOTT I've never tried, but lets test it, point me to a diaspora user and ill see if i can follow...

And yea mastodon is usually microblogging, thou as you know we eliminated the limit here :)

@freemo Yeah. I like that about this instance.

Also, try @MasterOfTheTiger@diasp.org. I can't figure out how to do it.

@MOTT Ok just did some checking. It seems while Diaspora does talk OStatus they dont adhere to the standard and thus no other servers that speak the standard can actually interact with diaspora. So until diaspora starts following the standards it seems they will have to remain in the dark to us :(

@MOTT I tend to agree. Im not really sure how active diaspora development is though. Since they are still on OStatus which itself is very old, and never finished implementing it right I suspect that development on diaspora is somewhat stalled. I could be wrong though.

@freemo Maybe, but it seems somewhat active. I am following the GitHub repo and will see how active it really is.

github.com/diaspora/diaspora

@MOTT looks like the bulk of its activity was from 2010 - 2012, then activity slowed down but still active from 2012 - 2017 or so, then really died down in 2018. Sadly 2018 is when all the new federation standards came out and all the new software started to be implemented. So thats really a shitty time to slow down :(

@freemo I am actually going to make my own pod in the Fediverse. I was going to use Diaspora*, but what do you think??

Follow

@MOTT
If you use friendica with couple of plugins you should talk with mastodon and diaspora... since you have this two lives you may want to give it a look =)
