Good, the mess smokers leave behind is disgusting and damges the environment.

Wil they also be billed for the cost of fires on say heathland that are caused by discarded cigarettes too.

I mean, all litter is gross and bad for the environment. I wish they hadn’t just gone for the low hanging fruit while ignoring every other company that creates our trash.

It’s a step I suppose. When governments choose to fine an already unpopular group or industry rather than attempt widespread change it just suggests to me that they’re more interested in revenue than ‘the good.’

@b6hydra @TheGuardian_uk Good point, also the revenue raised should go back in to funding the very people charged with clearing up the mess.

This all goes back to education, rather than simply issing fines. Making sure peole understand the impact, but makes sure that appropriate recpitcles are available for disposal, however we don’t want ugly bins cluttering up our natural wild spaces.
