Can anyone recommend tools for doing pixel art / bitmaps for SSD1306-based OLEDs?

I'd like to draw some simple icon-style graphics with 2-3 frames of animation.

TIL that not only does R&S VISA have a linux version, but they have a package for Raspbian.
