I’ve been going through The Linux command line with the kids for our computer class. I’m struggling to find some real-world projects for them to apply their knowledge. I think I need to stop touching their computers. Things will break eventually, and they’ll have to fix it.
My hope is that they don’t just stop using it when it breaks. You can lead a horse to water…
@thalweg home-schooling? kids will be interested in what they’re interested in. I know when I was younger, I tried to get my friend as interested in learning C++ as I was: he just couldn’t care less 🤷
@thalweg something that you might want to consider is to create science experiments where a load of data needs to be tracked. This would then be much easier to be modeled via the computer over doing it by hand.
Photo manipulation is another area that allows them to learn more about the tool without encapsulating too much negative effects.
@barefootstache That is a really good idea. I will have to think about how I can incorporate some of that.
