- higher elevation means lower pressure

- as the elevator descends, pressure increases within the elevator shaft below and decreases above

- as the elevator descends, the air inside the elevator experiences less gravity (due to the equivalence principle) so the pressure near the bottom decreases and the pressure at the ceiling increases

- and visa versa...
