📚 **Books And To Be Read Lists**
How many books do you have in your TBR list?
Currently my personal total is twenty-three books. Since I am a slow reader it will take me a very long time to get through the list; however, the urge to buy more books is constant. I wish I knew how my mind squares that circle.
@bibliolater Does a book shelf count as a TBR list?
@mhd Only if the shelf is two metres in length or longer.
@bibliolater I don't have lists, I have piles, and the numbers are always in flux. I will never finish all the books I'd like to read, so my strategy is to stop reading ones that don't stand up by the time I'm 80-100 pages in, and give them away.
A strategy to cull the weak before purchase is to flip open to the middle and see if what I read flows smoothly. I ignore this strategy at my peril, as happened recently with a recommendation.
Mind you, there are counterexamples. It took me several tries before I was in the right space to finish the Silmarillion.
@mason To be fair my list is not a list in the traditional sense of the word. It is more of a pile of #books in a particular corner of my study.
You mentioned culling stock. It was only very recently that I #DNF a #book for the first time in my life. Ordinarily I have been loathed to not finish a book I had started; but, this particular title, a historical fiction that ran over one thousand pages took it out of me and made me change my lifetime policy.
@bibliolater What frees me to stop reading something is the realization of how many good books there are out there, and how many of them I'll never start if I doggedly finish every book I try, regardless of quality.
@bibliolater TBH I probably have more than 20 lists
@antony That reads as overload to my simple mind.
@bibliolater different nonfiction topics for future reading
@bibliolater
Only a few in the actual TBR but I have like 20 samples waiting for me to sift through. :D
