was shopping earlier today, overheard a customer talking to an employee about "we'll do [idk what..] with the unvaccinated", both laughing.
shit is turning ugly quick and people don't even see it. it's amazing and frightening to watch.
i'm near the point of "fingers crossed for omicron hitting the vaccinated hard" to have the bullshit stop. maybe ADE is real after all.
sucks if people get ill of course, but if this general mood in the population continues we'll have good old lynchings next xmas :/
@trinsec i don't wish doom on anyone, i wrote that i feel like i'm on the verge. it's insane that such jokes are now considered "gallows humor", even if it's clearly group based hostility like "the unemployed", "alcoholics", etc. i have read/heard once too often that it's "cleansing" (and other things) if unvaccinated (for whatever reason) die. just look on twitter. those things get _ no_ repercussion and many likes.
this society only disgusts me now. it's all lies and greed, from top to bottom. janus reigns. i just want to be left alone. i have no real contact with anyone outside my household anymore for two years, as i don't really want covid (even if i think i had it early in 2020) and everyone has gone insane anyway. i honestly am on the brink of madness too.
the whole thing has one good, at least i now can remotely comprehend how it is to be discriminated for being member of "group".
@trinsec and i started out this year with "yeah, mrna is too hot for me, i'll just wait for inactive vaccines". this is what a year of being told by politicians and media that i'm a bad person does. it's not a good excuse for my bad behaviour, but shouldn't have happened in the first place.
@bonifartius Having concerns about mrna-vaccines isn't new. Freemo had the same. He went with a vector-vaccine (Johnsson) instead. He got a vaccine later too (only a few months ago?). Having concerns about 'new' vaccination methods (mrna is a bit older than most people realise) doesn't make you a bad person.
Though you'll find to have less and less excuse nowadays, heh. Just recently the novavax vaccine got approved in the EU, which is even more traditional than mrna and vector.
I understand having concerns at the start. But as time goes on, and more is known and more ways to get vaccinated are available.. *Shrug*

vector too is new, i discussed that with freemo recently. mrna technology isn't new, but every attempt at building vaccines with it were unsuccessful (like the current ones are after a few months). that's why biontech was nearly bankrupt before covid.

i don't seek excuses, it's called informed consent. like i've written, i might have taken novavax as it isn't an active (compared to mrna/vector) vaccine. i would have taken sinovac (which has been available in many parts of the world for a long time now..) my inclination doesn't grow with each of these occurences though.

@bonifartius
I'm having cautious hope myself that Omicron will indeed be more mild yet more infectious. But too much is still unknown about it. Guess that's why my government has a knee-jerk reaction now of a lockdown until we know more about it and to buy time so everybody who wants to can get boostered.
@verl With this wording you are the one sounding paranoid to be honest... But this conversation's probably going nowhere.
@trinsec point 2. and 3. are more or less facts.. we ordererd additional vaccine doses for 2.2 billion € iirc.
pharma would be idiotic to say everyone is safe now :)
so are the governments who continue to burn money on vaccines instead of putting it directly into the hospitals. just imagine what you can do for 2.2 billion. very likely things that save more lifes.
@bonifartius Those jokes are always considered gallows humor, not just 'now'. Even I make very dark jokes sometimes and won't act upon it. It's just a way of venting harmlessly. Though best not done in public like those dumb jokesters have done, but that's obviously why they have piped down so you could barely hear them.
> 'Just look on twitter.'
If you want a bigger cesspool on the internet, indeed, look on twitter. Stop making yourself crazy.
Social media IS the worst of society. You can't take it seriously. Something about feeling invulnerable because you're anonymous.
And you get scared and uncomfortable after reading all that bullshit. And you're forwarding it right here. My suggestion? Take a break from the internet if it affects you that much.

sure, dark humor is fine. it's just that usually if you make jokes about nearly any group (except few) you are considered "nazi" (for a lack of better word).
gallows humor can only be made by those who have the noose around their neck, not the ones operating the lever.
(eris said this too but i guess you probably blocked kiwifarms).

it's even people i know from work who "like" this stuff. even if i don't know them, it's still someone writing this stuff in public. people have been canceled for much less. these get praise and not a twitter ban.

i don't know, but a chancellor in germany saying there are "no red lines" anymore is kinda concerning for me. it isn't covid which scares me, it isn't some people on the internet. it's that it's accepted that rights can be given and taken on a whim by the deus ex machinae our governments are and a large majority likes this and wants more of the "strong leadership".
> i don't wish doom on anyone,
Well they wish doom on you, so it's either doom on them or doom on you.
Choose wisely.
