does anyone remember when the whole "hate speech" and "misinformation" spin started?

9/11 was definitively the turning point for our future but i think the "free speech is evil and has to be censored" idea appeared later. somewhere in the 2010s?

i more and more feel like in a dystopian novel now. things are getting vague in you mind and all records are manipulated already.

@bonifartius this stuff isnt anything new. History is written by the victors. Always has been.

@igelsQTs sure. the thing i'm interested in is the moment when it stopped being "haha look at that tinfoil hat" and started being "that's dangerous misinformation, terrorist!" though. what was the victory?

@bonifartius @igelsQTs
I think it has more to do with the fact that tinfoil hats used to have absolutely no reach beyond their circle of acquaintances before the internet. And when basically everyone got access to it they flocked together making it dangerous misinformation. Around 2010 seems to be the tipping point with the rise of smartphones
@bonifartius we dont live in a special point in history. These sorts of things have always existed and will always do. Except in dictatorships where people are legit brainwashed
