the realization that there are almost no interesting old people left now. no great stories. no tales of the olden days which really were different. boomers effectively lived their whole life in the same world we are in, only that things were improving all the time.

@bonifartius why not? I know quite many "old" and really interesting people. nowadays people are more involved in intellectual kinds of work, they're times more literate than people 100 years ago. they know much more and can tell you many interesting things.

@iron_bug while those, let's call them scientific, things are certainly interesting this was more about social experiences and society in general. there are just some things i never have experienced and never will.

the way western societies are running kind of feels like a very deep local optimum - agitprop against ever changing enemies and ever increasing consumption of things which don't make people happy for decades.

i will very likely never experience the slowness of the society my grandparents lived in, for example.
