the realization that there are almost no interesting old people left now. no great stories. no tales of the olden days which really were different. boomers effectively lived their whole life in the same world we are in, only that things were improving all the time.

@bonifartius Boomers only exist in Europe and America, most of the rest of the world doesn't have this problem

@bonifartius

The word "Boomer" is short for "Baby Boomer" which refers to people who were born after World War II and up until the early sixties. There were more births during that time than usual, which was referred to as a "baby boom", thus the name.

FYI there are more Millennials than there are "Baby Boomers".

If you mean that literally, yes, everyone who has ever lived has lived in this world.

But there has been more change in the world in this short time since World War II than perhaps in any time in history, except perhaps during the late Renaissance in the 17th century.

The world today doesn't resemble the world of the late forties at all. Not even close.

@bonifartius why not? I know quite many "old" and really interesting people. nowadays people are more involved in intellectual kinds of work, they're times more literate than people 100 years ago. they know much more and can tell you many interesting things.

@iron_bug while those, let's call them scientific, things are certainly interesting this was more about social experiences and society in general. there are just some things i never have experienced and never will.

the way western societies are running kind of feels like a very deep local optimum - agitprop against ever changing enemies and ever increasing consumption of things which don't make people happy for decades.

i will very likely never experience the slowness of the society my grandparents lived in, for example.
