@freemo
just popped into my mind: my dad had a short wave receiver, weird serial port (?) device the receiver was hooked up to and a bespoke DOS software to receive sea weather maps. was totally fascinating for me to watch weather maps being received by radio.
some years ago i spend some hours to get some software running to receive anything (maps, morse, whatever) and failed because everything open source wasn't really working well :/
@bonifartius yea sadly the ham radio community has some suprisingly shitty software, the open-source stuff is no exception (though very little is OSS in ham radio).
