@offset___cyan He positions himself as a victim of the toxicity in the foss community, even though he willingly chooses to engage with it. Without realizing it, he ends up contributing to the same toxicity he opposes, spending significant portions of his life venting about it.

I was once a fan of SoureHut and a paying member, but only for a short time. When I followed Drew's stubborness re: supporting Org-file rendering on sr.ht, I figured that this is not a place to grow in.

Sadly you can only watch while things get worse and worse. His recent blog post about RMS was nauseating. I just don't understand what his goals and values are. Clearly, improving SourceHut is not the one.

@louis @offset___cyan@emacs.ch it's just too easy to kick down on old guys who have cancer to get some cheap internet points.

maybe he's just blind with rage after the socialist paradise he thought the EU is country after country votes the equivalent of trump into power.

luckily there are enough alternatives for source code management :) cgit, gitlab, gitea, fossil, ... i'd always go selfhosted now, preferably not with something crazy microservice like sourcehut ;)

@louis @offset___cyan@emacs.ch also i regret every euro i gave sourcehut, but that's lessons learned i guess. next time i'll know for what warning signals to look for :)

@bonifartius @louis @offset___cyan Me too, renewed my payment this year but I am not going to do it next year. I even admire the guy when he only talks about tech stuff but yeah, this year I could see why many people don't like him.

@jrballesteros05 @louis @offset___cyan@emacs.ch
even his tech stuff is hit'n'miss for my taste. i don't get the obsession with wayland, sourcehut being a microservice architecture is a bad choice, ...

i should have quit when he said trump voters will get booted from sourcehut asap. can't find it rn, but i'm pretty sure he did. he is of course free to cancel contracts for his service as he pleases, but it's shit behavior.

@jrballesteros05 @bonifartius @louis @offset___cyan that's what Ive been trying to tell people for years, and I agree with him on a lot of stuff, I just don't like how he interacts with people.

@bonifartius @louis @offset___cyan

Never heard of this dude. Pulled him up.

What a horse's ass.

Do I like everything Rick Stallman has said? No. I am not a member of the cult of Stallman. But do I think he deserves cancer or to be kicked while he's down? Also no!

@kilroy_was_here @louis @offset___cyan@emacs.ch stallmans mistake is that he says/writes whatever comes to his mind :)

that said, stallman has had an immeasureable positive impact on many peoples lives. the only wrong deed i know of is saying unpopular things. one just can not listen to these things.

@bonifartius@qoto.org @kilroy_was_here@dobbs.town @louis@emacs.ch @offset___cyan@emacs.ch

the only wrong deed i know of is saying unpopular things

Speaking truth even though it is unpopular might be one of the greatest deeds in my opinion. Parroting popular opinions gets you upvotes/likes/boosts/whatever, and as such is easy. The unpopular opinions get you hate, people trying to ruin your life, and similar events. It takes courage to speak those, and it really shows which people are good at heart, and which ones just pretend.
