i saw some "bleach" generators on amazon which work by electrolysis of slightly salted water. this seems like a pretty decent idea for emergency water treatment, would require a solar panel and some salt. i wonder if there are studies on the efficiency.
@bonifartius Lol, and then put those cheaper metals put in salty water for electrolysis :)
(might not cheaper metal just there is a lot of influx / export stuff which isn't the over-quality type metal we're used to for brackets, hooks, tools and stuff like that)
@freeschool yeah, warrants electrodes which aren't poisonous when dissolved ;)
@mangeurdenuage you just need adequate concentration of chlorine which can't be that high - i read about using household bleach (NaOCl) and you apparently only need a few drops of it for one liter. the water has to be clear of solids of course, but that is the case for most methods which aren't boiling.
i wouldn't want to use electrodes of what likely is shady chinese pcb for that of course :D
