totally serious tinfoil territory

tinfoil theory: they still sell devices with 8G ram so that people will get pissed how slow it is (because it's swapping all the time while the browser allocates another gigabyte) and then buy a new one.

i haven't even been vaccinated and i already cant form a proper sentence.

Gender talk/ stupid personal shit

Man, there a LOT of Trans/anti-trans threads on my TL today.
For the record: I do think trans people exist and if they think that as an individual that transitioning is the best thing for them, then I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be able to and I'm happy to respect their identity, pronouns, whatever.
I do however, think that it's something that shouldn't be pushed on people, especially children, who it might not necessarily be the best decision for, and I'm very weary about hormonal treatment etc. for kids under 18, although It's something that I would still take on a case-by-case basis.
Part of this is because of personal experienced in my life, being a rather feminine male who did at one point in his life think he was trans himself. It took me time to come to terms with the fact that I was a male who had a naturally feminine tendency and perhaps an interest in crossdressing. If I had made the decision to do anything permanent with my body I would have massively regretted it, and I am worried about other people like me who had similar feelings (especially when they're younger) but instead of working through them on a personal, individual, level, getting immediately diagnosed as trans and making permanent decisions that can't be undone.
I don't think any of this is especially controversial or hateful towards anyone, but I have a feeling that people on both sides of this issue on fedi are going to take issue with it. :shrug_kon:
In the past 48 hours I've seen "If you use a tiling window manager you're probably a racist toxic fossbro", "if you support FOSS you're likely a liberal or a toxic fossbro", "If you use emacs you're part of the problem" and uh...

Can we just stop putting people in bins based on what tools they use and, more likely, what they had available to them when they first learned how to interact with tech?

Y'all stressing me out because I've seen these funny little takes go viral and become zeitgeist material.

@aral
Can you explain what you mean by "everyone's point"?

At least for me, I'm railing against the mob justice/cancel culture.
And that their primary reference is a hit piece full of 'inaccuracies' (to put it mildly).
That does not mean I'm defending the FSF.

The "Communal Technology Movement" thread looks interesting, but have to read up on that.
I'm also perfectly fine with KDE e.V.'s response, where they (primarily) rightfully criticize FSF's process.
