"The freight carriers can afford to make concessions on pay. ... But providing rail workers with ordinary time-off benefits would threaten the industry’s core business strategy, an operating procedure that has helped to nearly double its profits over the past decade. That strategy is predicated on treating rail workers as if they were nearly indistinguishable from the railcars they drive.

Our 9-year-old son came home from school & said that some boys at recess offered to play with him if 'he hugged & kissed a girl.'
He responded to them, "No, that's inappropriate," & told us he didn't mind not being able to play with those boys after all. Afterwards his teacher shared she was happy he stood up to peer pressure.
Y'all—it's never too early to teach boys about consent and boundaries. Have the conversation. Then have it again. And again. Boys will be the boys we teach them to be.

It's again hard to express how grateful I am for my wonderful leader at CoastAlaska - for today's group meeting she sent us this wonderful article to read and discuss as a group.

You might have seen somebody using the proverb Vox Populi, Vox Dei. What was missing was the context in which it was used:
Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, Vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit.
In case you do not speak Latin, it means in English:
And those people should not be listened to who keep saying the voice of the people is the voice of God since the riotousness of the crowd is always very close to madness.

TW - deer hunting

Such a beautiful day - and I really do have the best boss. She sent us all a note today saying she was taking today off to go deer hunting!
(For those not living in SE Alaska, we have had weeks of heavy rain - not unusual, but days like this are rare and beautiful)
OK, I'm jealous, but this weather means our tower crew can finish work on the KTOO FM antenna, which has to be removed, inspected, and dried out.
#broadcastengineering is hard sometimes.
Hoping the crew can take down the KTOO Juneau antenna tomorrow and inspect and maybe dry it out. Thank goodness for a small backup.

Request to my gifted 'crazy cooks'. Came back from a month at camp with small potatoes that got too cold in the fridge - frozen, I think. Now soft, but not spoiled. Also returned to find turnips, parsnip, & possibly salvageable cabbage here.
Recipe tips? Have onions, garlic, etc

To the newcomers to Mastodon and the Fediverse:
When you ask to follow someone that doesn't accept followers automatically, please have your profile filled out and some posts in your feed by you. I'm not going to follow anyone that hasn't taken the time to get their feet wet and write some posts, so I can know what you're about.
@users how can we support you?
Patreon or similar?
It just takes a couple of minutes - with RCV you can extend your vote by ranking - and to prevent your vote from being counted for a candidate you don't support, don't rank them. You can rank as many or as few as you wish.
