Alpen glow - from my porch, North Douglas (Juneau, AK) About 10°F

One might speculate that somewhere there is a copy of Anthem of the Sun w/ Guaraldi-Good Grief on the flip side ;)

@cajun_cheechako was chatting with the bestie in Sitka, she said no one has insulated pipes. Gonna be nerve-wracking for the next few bits.

Clear and cold - not quite as cold as predicted. But still, we are just a few hundred yards from Gastineau Channel, which tends to moderate the temperature - so, for coastal SE Alaska, these temperatures are a bit unusual, and are predicted to be as low as 1°F tonight.

Sorry, to be clear, the first two pictures are the 'odd' Good Grief! disc, the bottom two are different Anthem of the Sun disc pictures I found online.

Very obscure query

I work at a number of stations in Alaska. At one station I found this 'unusual' Vince Guaraldi album - Oh Good Grief!
The station manager shared its unusual feature.
Side one is 'normal' but Side two is Grateful Dead, Anthem of the Sun.
(They discovered it one day on the air)
I have searched around, but no one/forum seems to know anything about it.
As a former recording/mastering engineer, a couple of things come to mind.
Good Grief is listed as WS1747
Anthem of the Sun is WS1749
Could be master platters got shuffled?
Also, there are copies of Good Grief listed from 1968 with some coding/ numbering errors, but those have the smaller WB logo, this one is bigger, and presumably later? Also, most Anthem of the Sun dics (that I can find), have an even different WB logo, but I did find a couple listed on line, with the same WB logo as this Good Grief!, and described as being a repress. (not a good picture, from eBay, but shows the same WB logo)
I'm very curious if anyone has run across this - surely they didn't press just one like this.
Thx

And, I just realized that 'first world problems' for some of us might be an opportunity to bless others.
Like probably many of you, my wife and I had to get 'new' cellphones when our carrier switched to 5G. Perfectly good phones, that weren't able to 'register' on the 5G network (no voice over IP capability). Now, expensive junk...
But, even sans SIM card, they can connect to WiFi hotspots just fine. They have a decent amount of memory, and could be wiped and have library apps like Libby installed - and even message apps like WhatsApp, etc. - all w/o a cell phone bill.
I need to check this out, but maybe I can donate a phone to our local library, have them pair it with a library card for someone, and give them access to books and other things.
If someone else wants to try this, please do!
Another win for 'Buy Nothing Christmas' !

Holidays can be stressful for many reasons. One truly simple thing you can do, for children especially, which costs nothing but time, is to make sure they have a library card. Even if you are not able to easily get to a local library, Libby and other apps make it possible to download books, magazines, audio books and even some movies.

If you don't have Internet, but have a smartphone or laptop, you can download items from any hotspot (like McDonalds, the library, etc), and read or listen even offline. You often can even use an old cellphone or tablet with WiFi but no cell plan! A great gift that lasts forever!

Toilets, wastewater COVID-19, RSV, and Influenza all increasing

This thread will be wastewater related, looking at new variants, levels, and what happens in the air after you flush that wastewater down the toilet with some cool video/graphics. 🧵 1/

I was leaving a crowded store today, taking off my mask as two parents with a toddler prepared to enter.

"Time for our masks," said parent #1.

"We can pretend like we are going on an airplane" said parent #2.

"Yay" said the toddler.

And that's how it can be.

Not an ad but maybe helpful for ADD/easily distracted folks like me.
I lose things. I am on my third set of Bluetooth earbuds. I only buy inexpensive ones because I Iose them so easily.

I finally splurged a bit - Costco had these Skullcandy ANC Sesh earbuds for $30 off, $39. That's about $15 more than I usually spend, but these seem perfect for me!

Noise cancelling w/ an 'awareness' mode that lets you hear what's going on around you when they are in.

But the BIG WIN for me, and what really sold me, is they have Tile embedded. With the Tile app on my Android phone I can find them, and they even make a 'squeaky noise' while you are searching for them.

Will I lose these, eventually? Perhaps, but at least now I'll have a fighting chance!

big reminder that one of the reasons we don't have universal healthcare is because when its provided by our employer they can use our literal lives against us if we try to fight back against unfair labor practices.

Doing my bit to keep the #sneachta going. Some #watercolour cards I painted of rosehips in the snow.

A friend took this photo of the sunrise from her back deck this morning.
#Alaska

Seems unfair somehow - 2 solid weeks (weekends included) working with the tower crew, in heavy rain and winds - now I'm sick as a dog and it's been like this the whole time I've been sick.
X-country skiing will have to wait.
