@kejt it's not just me. Have any idea how important that is? I've got a friend who does that sort of thing all the time, and I think he thinks it's a part of something else. I keep telling him to stop worrying and to accept that it's just him and all of his wonderful qualities.
@Gargron It will also not work fully, particularly for video/audio until we find a medium that allows us to keep everything hosted forever, and still able to accommodate requests dealing with the DMCA (In the US, though not sure what the equivalent is in Germany) if somebody posts a cover that someone else wants to pitch a fit about, for instance. Even with most implementations, unlike YouTube, videos and audio can only be posted for a minimum of two weeks since people haven't determined an appropriate way to police copyright infringement.
@Gargron Long time before that happens, Eugen. I'm on the same page, but how do you think that the older generation, who is barely comfortable with the ins and outs, (privacy not withstanding) of mainstream social media would be able to jump to a greater comfort level with federated social networks? my parents, for instance, no matter how well I explain, they'd never understand what the term means.

@kejt I can't type nor talk today, it seems. LOL
Some random things I'm thinking about while I'm still "taking time off":
The follow action on Mastodon needs to be sped up. I think there's room for some optimization server-side, but also just removing the loading bar and adding "lag compensation". Similarly, it might help to remove the global loading bar for a profile's toots, and display a local loading indicator there instead. Opening a profile feels too slow to me. Emphasis on feels, it's about impressions, not actual timing.
I'm also thinking about a new user's path. We require e-mail confirmation before you can login. That's necessary to prevent spam and trolls. But what if you would immediately be logged in after sign up, but couldn't post or follow before confirming the e-mail? Perhaps that would be better?
The "welcome" screen looks like a modal window, and a lot of people seem to skip it instinctively. What if it was actually a full page? Also, the contents of it really need to be revised.
Tips for staying sane on Election Day:
✅Double-check your registration to confirm your polling place.
✅Allow plenty of time to vote.
❌Don't assume a big turnout always means the same thing.
❌Don't leap to conclusions based on early exit polls.
