Do you think it works to have an account and use commercial things like Facebook in order to get your Free Software / Freedom movement going ?
@freeschool I still have not found a way to use social networks for good. All of them include an endlessly scrolling sheet of messages. And it is already a bad thing. No pagination, no way to read something later. Just read now or it would be lost forever in the long scroll. Addiction. Loosing your own time.
@dexiheart the thought is interesting. But you make a mistake by comparing writers with politicians. You should compare either actors to politicians, or actors' scriptwriters to politician's speachwriters
I'm looking for tips... how to solve this human equation: when other people they ask questions they either expect short answers or can't handle long answers <------ WTF HELP ME!
@freeschool also read this one to catch my idea https://fosstodon.org/@kev/108242718552915456
@freeschool well, you still have not written what you would like to do with such system that you don't like. You didn't give a solution to this problem, but only talked about it. It is not so constructive, don't you think.
What I proposed is to leave the bad system as it is, because it would probably die without your effort and your work or your money. You stop using it or buying it or don't follow the directions it gives to you.
Is there something better to do? Should you fight it directly or indirectly? I usually prefer a peaceful method of conflict solving, if it is possible.

@freeschool the answer is people don't have much free time to spend it on you entirely. They each have relatives, children and 20+ friends in real life, probably each needs attention (especially children).
Usually it goes like that: you write something, a person answers by making a comment, you answer the comment if needed. And that's all. Most posts don't require much discussion. The peson you communicate with understood your opinion, you understood theirs. Now it's probably time to move on to something other. Life is short. If the discussion does not give you much fun, you look other places. It is not meant to offend someone.
Imagine a system* which would never go against itself, and would never go against it's own design, would never develop anything that would undo it or make it 'better'... if you can imagine that (like the old authoritarian mentlity) then you can see better the reality no matter which realm of work you're in... and then start on what needs doing about it...
@freeschool The meaning of life is unrest and feeling the need to change (to change internaly and to change the world). Complete peace, stability leads to degradation, death.
There is never a system that is always the same. If you don't like how some of system's parts work, you should invest resources (time and effort) in another part of this system. To take the effort alone or with someone - it doesn't matter. But there should be your positive attitude about developing the system, a desire to make the world better and doing something for it.
I compared the landing pages of Mastodon, Pleroma and Misskey because I was curious how each characterized itself.
joinmastodon.org: "Mastodon isn’t a single website like Twitter or Facebook, it's a network of thousands of servers operated by different organizations and individuals that provide a seamless social media experience."
→ Mastodon is a network
join.misskey.page: "Misskey is a decentralized microblogging platform born on Earth. Since it exists within the Fediverse (a universe where various social media platforms are organized), it is mutually linked with other social media platforms."
→ Misskey is part of a network
pleroma.social: "Free and open communication for everyone. Pleroma is social networking software compatible with other Fediverse software such as Mastodon, Misskey, Pixelfed and many others. "
→ Pleroma is part of a network
Isn't it misleading to put content on screen and then terms of service? Shouldn't it be an ultimatum and answering this question first?
@freeschool there is lawer's world and real world. They don't match and have not so much in common.
The company who writes the Terms of Service is not going to comply to them. And it does not expect users to comply.
You will be banned if the company wants it and will not if the company desires so. You data will be sold regardless of the Terms of Service.
And there is no way for you to check if the Terms are followed. You also can't sue the company legally.
The terms even don't have to be written according the law because:
- Sites in internet are international (not for long probably) and can't follow all laws in all countries
- There is always a point in Rules that says "If anything in the document is against the law, it has no effect, but all the rest has effect regardless"
Isn't it misleading to put content on screen and then terms of service? Shouldn't it be an ultimatum and answering this question first?
@freeschool that is called "a legal offer". Not a normal human offer, it is a special lawer's word.
"Legal offer" is always not fair. It says "if you use it - you pay for it". Pay by giving your personal data too.
The fact of usage is enough, so you don't have to sign anything or in other way show that you accept the rules.
MAIN-STREAM... NON-MAIN-STREAM...
@freeschool I am the arrow that points to my direction. The direction may sometimes be the same one the other arrows are pointing to. Sometimes my arrow has a different direction, sometimes even opposite direction than the majority of other arrows.
But notice that both my array and other arrays are constantly shifting, rotating. Tomorrow they won't point the same way they do today.
Does anyone know a way to 'convert' people more concretely into our CULT / CULTURE or using better tools?
@freeschool you see - Mastodon is just a bad thing. I don't like it. But I try to use it. So I can't say how to convert people to Mastodon and don't really want them to be converted.
But I can say what I don't like:
- Mastodon is not conservative enough. Almost all servers are against fundamental human rights like "free speech", "freedom of opinion", "freedom of thought". They forbid a person to think there are only 2 genders and forbid to think there have been not many dead people in WW2 etc. Read the rules.
Would my parents use the site that does not accept there values, their beliefs?
- Mastodon is not simple technology. It is not HTML, but heavy Javascript. It makes people from IT-industry treat it with caution - as Javascript means an arbitrary program may run and do whatever it wants. Also Mastodon wants your email address and you can't be anonymous. You phone number is attached to the Mastodon account indirectly through the email, same thing as with other social networks.
So is Mastodon better than other social networks? What is better?
Strange also comes from your expectation or inexperience!...
@freeschool, seems you are as usually are writing something bizzare, both text and picture defying human logic.
Let's look at the picture.
A man, his shadow, and the shadow says it is related to your site. The man is runing away from the shadow. On the next picture the man is fighting the shadow with his sword. Does it mean he is fighting your site and decided to do it as he is not afraid anymore? (Shadow does not look friendly at all, so is your site unfriendly too?)
Now about the text
"Strange" just means "different". Different from what you have seen before. It may be good and may be bad. So, you should be careful with "strange". There are several things you can do. Avoid it so it can't hurt or test its properties to find out more about it or interact with it...
@freeschool that's an easy question. You ask the person who wants to work for you for free to grow something that would give fruit. And not just any fruit but a fruit both of you could eat together after it is ripe enough.
In other words, doing something for mutual benefit is preferable. This benefet may or may not be something material. Or it can be something material for one of you and some knowlege or satisfaction for another.
People motivate us to do things sooner... And invite them to share our life... UBUNTU
@freeschool that is a little selfish to attach everything you see around to youself. Saying that Ubuntu is about collective thought process is not absolutely right, though these two things are connected.
For me Ubuntu means "being a sociable human, who cares about others in his society and lives accordingly to traditions". So it should include:
- Interconnection of people
- Separation between people near you and further from you. You interact with ones that are near more
- Caring of the ones who are near (wishing them good mentally and implementing it to reality with your actions)
- Paying respect to the things that make you and people near you common. The things in common are: traditions, rituals, beliefs, ideals, virtues etc
That does not mean bad attitude to strangers. It means, yes, trying to attach something alien to your circle by finding something common in you and in this alien thing.
When you are trying to attach Ubuntu to your ideology it is a similar process of making the "idea of Ubuntu" your idea. But you are doing it wrong by not respecting the things that are different between your ideology and Ubuntu. You just declare that they are equal. Seems like you don't care enough about what Ubuntu really is, don't try to study it.
@freeschool is really depressing comics that does not tell people what to do... Use Firefox? Firefox is sponsored by Google. The whole point of Firefox to exist is to satisfy anti-monopoly laws to make them not aplyable to Chrome. And Firefox has the same privacy issues that Chrome has.
Favourite Super-Hero?... or Trait in a Human?...
@freeschool For me a superhero should be strong and clever, have balance in his life and actions, have a spouse and probably some children. His job should be based on helping people and making the world a better place to live. He should have a life meaning - to care about his family and his country. And also have a place in life - it should be a house and a job. He also should be generally a happy person, that knows how to rest and find lots of new things he has not seen or tried before. He should be naturally handsome and well-built. Not into any tobacco, alcohol or other drugs. Probably that would be enough. For the long life with people you love!
@eldritch_cookie yes, you understood quite right. You SHOULD generally NOT use search on a social network site to find friends or followers or whom to follow. It should happen naturally and generally should not depend on the platform/site you are using.
The urgent desire to find someone you don't know, as I think, is more a marketing invention. And even more - to press the "follow" button so the whole world knows that you two are interconnected. Some kind of exhibitionism.
Instead of searching you should come to a place with people who have similar interests and talk and interact to them. Like ancient Greeks who (if they were not slaves and had time) came to the central town square (called "forum") to socialise.
