Yeah, the official term is "status", both on twitter and here on Mastodon, but nobody uses that term except the programmers.
When I first read the user documentation it keep using the term "status update" and I had no idea what they were talking about, because they never defined what the word "status" was anywhere in the documentation.
Programmers are usually lousey documentation writters.
@Pat : Fair enough! I think "status" is from back in the Neolithic, when people actually thought these would be used for status, like "having lunch" or "out for the day", as opposed to ... everything and anything.
