For new admins (and others unaware), and users trying to find a permanent home, this is a good reference list related to instances that have been defederated at large.

Seriously? Not your fault, I know, but does NOT have "no moderation"; this is a complete myth. qoto is as moderated as any server. It's not some kind of "free speech" absolutist nuthouse.

What qoto doesn't have (in most cases) is , and the reasons for that are nicely spelled out here: qoto.org/@freemo/1093198179438

I'm on qoto, and as far as I can tell the fact that it's been defederated by some other servers has no impact whatever: I see lots and lots of people, and lots and lots of people obviously see me.

I really don't get it.k

@ceoln I've read the reasons why some servers defederate qoto and as with any admin, it is their decision based on their criteria and their rules. It's not my list but is a list used by many admins. That does not mean that all admins who reference the list agree with every entry.

@shelenn
Yeah, I know! As I say, I'm not criticizing you in any way. :) I just like to mention this issue when the list is mentioned. I will take it up on the wiki.

@ceoln For users wanting to find a permanent home, some have moved because they unknowingly chose an instance where their friends on other instances (that have defederated them) can't interact with their friends.

@shelenn
Yep, that's certainly true! Which I think makes it especially important that things like widely shared Blocklists have relatively reasonable content. :)
