@ceoln Replying in public mode means that not the whole Fediverse can see it. Only your followers.
What if you want to display someone else's toot to put them in a spotlight for the whole Fediverse to see? Like 'See, this is a great plubication!' or whatever. Usually useful in journalism or science stuff. Which is why Qoto has it I suppose.

I still don't really understand, though: in general the people who are going to see anything you do, are mostly your followers. There are other ways to find something, of course, but...
If you don't mind putting the effort into it :) could you describe a scenario in some detail, maybe even with named characters, where Fred posts a public reply R to toot T by Mary, and Jack who sees R can't see T, whereas if Fred had replied QT-style, Jack would see the QT?
