this has been super fun & supportive & lovely, but i won’t be giving up my twitter account

too many good friends are still there. say what bad things you will about the algorithm, but this real time stuff means my friends get lost in the shuffle

and it’s not like i wasn’t making new friends on twitter. just a little more measuredly

I think one of the underrated features that makes mastodon so great is that (on the default browser at least) it doesn't show how many favs or boosts something in the main feed has. on twitter I would find myself faving posts just because they were popular

I am a Scottish mature student in biomedical engineering. I enjoy theoretical physics, especially anything to do with waves and electromagnetism. Getting into fluid dynamics at the moment. My favourite authors are Iain Banks and early Terry Pratchett. My music changes according to my mood. I'm not very good with people, so if I mess up, please excuse me. I should probably come with a health warning when it comes to unintentional upsetting remarks. I also get distracted by shiny things really easily. And rocks. I'm a high school chemistry teacher in the Chicago suburbs and enjoy (almost) every minute of it.

I spend my free time gaming, coding personal projects, and reading sci-fi.
