Even though I am relatively new to #qoto and #mastodon, what I like about the #fediverse is its decentralised nature. I know that some will find this aspect quite disconcerting. Due to its nature, one is empowered to become one's own #algorithm. In order to populate a #timeline, the onus is upon the user to follow #hashtags liberally, as there is no all-seeing, all-knowing #algorithm to do the work.

Well that didn't take long;

No sooner than #Threads launches than #ElonMusk accuses #Meta of stealing #Twitter's #tradesecrets;

As Meta may've hired many ex-Twitter staff, my guess is Musk's legal team will be working on an accusation of 'inevitable disclosure' on the basis that even if they formally agreed not to utilise knowledge of T's organisational practices, their tacit knowledge of T's workings would inform how they run Threads;

not an easy case to prove & unlikely to get to court IMO

When an app asks for permissions, the OS should not only let you answer yes or no. Every category should havev a "yes, but feed the app fake data" option.

Want my contacts for no reason? Have these generated fake ones! Wanna listen to my microphone? Here's random ambiance sounds! Location? I'm on a tiny 5x5m island!
