McKinsey's involvement in the Saudi effort to launder their reputation through golf sponsorship is almost as predictable as Trump's involvement.

#introduction My name is Luca, I'm from Naples, Italy where I got my PhD in molecular medicine at the SEMM school. I'm currently a senior bioinformatician at the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, Spain where I do analyses of NGS data and develop pipelines with nextflow, python, R etc I'm the main developer of MOP, the first nextflow pipeline for the analysis of nanopore data. I'm interested in everything about science and politics, I love cooking and a big fan of Napoli football club
I am addicted at some level so it's been tough to leave Twitter 100%, but Musk has dedicated the platform to pushing US GOP's fascist scapegoating of queer, Jewish & academic communities.
I've seen more major accounts leave today than ever. If we leave in enough numbers, perhaps it could eventually be sold/revived. For now, it's plain Musk is creating a version of Parler where he still gets to harvest valuable data on Dems, progressives, & groups that the GOP most wants to scapegoat & target.

So get ready 😎 ! If you are interested in #epigenetics #epigenomics #methylation data analysis #R and #ggplot2 in #cancer research, you should probably follow me before I start posting threads about it.
I hope to make it interesting and accessible to everyone here, regardless of whether you are wet lab scientists, bioinformaticians, clinicians or science enthousiasts.
Some of the replies to this on twitter are suggesting that science twitter is an important and effective counter to the musk-ox.
This could be, although twitter seems to always turn such opportunities towards polarization rather than useful engagement.
It is important to acknowledge that it gives legitimacy to the site and feeds the advertising machine, their main source of income.
Dear @altmetric@twitter.com , please start tracking more sites re: impact. Twitter can't be left with its monopoly on altmetric as the only major social media being tracked reliably

First preprint from my PhD looking at the #hostrange of a #bacteriophage across a panel of 64 hosts. We found that the relationship between hosts is an important determinant of #viral susceptibility and replication across #Staphylococcus hosts🦠🧫🔬

Neat study by my new labmate Sarah Walsh et al. on how susceptibility to a bacteriophage is largely explained by host phylogeny across Staphylococcus strains + species. There are a few clade effects, but by and large the correlation between host phylogeny and susceptibility is very strong.
That might be expected of animals: a species is likely to behave biologically similar to its relatives.
But with #bacteria 🦠? Horizontal gene transfer could be a whole different ball game.... or maybe not!?

Hopping back on for a sec: if Trump owned Twitter, removed COVID info moderation, reinstated antisemites, then promoted all his tweets incl "prosecute Fauci," would you really stay on Twitter?

Musk's tweet about Fauci is stochastic terrorism.
America doesn't prosecute oligarchs so they know they won't be held accountable. That is why Musk feels he can get away with sending the mob after Fauci.
With Musk’s call to prosecute Fauci, I’m thinking it’s finally time to step back from Twitter.

I’m also enjoying Mastodon more.
There are still powerful communities there doing good (URMs; advocacy) and I don’t fault anyone for staying there for that. But I don’t think I can justify my own contributions there, ethically.
How are all of you thinking about this topic?
I've worked on all of science, from B cells to T cells.
