➡️β-lactams: PBP4, PBP5
➡️Vancomycin: D-Ala-D-Lac
➡️Linezolid: 23s rRNA mutations

'A plan to expand irrigated farming around one of Europe’s most important wetlands has alarmed conservation scientists and European officials. They fear the proposal, advanced earlier this month by conservative legislators in Spain’s autonomous region of Andalusia, will undermine efforts to preserve species-rich marshes in Doñana National Park that are already threatened by drought and extensive water withdrawals.'

Silicon Valley’s elite made their billions through luck, not genius. But as the public turns on them, they want to protect their privilege, so they’re trying to convince us they’re inherently superior.
For Disconnect, I explain how billionaires like Elon Musk are bringing eugenics back by promoting effective altruism, longtermism, and pronatalism. The goal is to cement their position at the top, and we need to stop them.

1/ If you're interested in learning #bioinformatics as a #novice, you're in the right place! Bioinformatics is a field that combines biology, computer science, and statistics to analyse large scale biological data. Here are some resources to get you started:-
Neutrophil BM shuttle:
"We demonstrate how drug-loaded poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) nanoparticles are taken up by neutrophils and are then transported across the bone marrow–blood barrier to boost drug concentrations in the bone marrow."
Hunting submarines.
'Here, we report that CD8+T cells maintain the capacity to kill tumor cells that are entirely devoid of MHC-I expression. This capacity proves to be dependent on interactions between T cell NKG2D and tumor NKG2D ligands (NKG2DL).'

'So what now of Sunak, the hardest man in the luxury knitwear aisle? We began the week with the prime minister’s much-vaunted reannouncement about trying to raise standards in maths. We end it with him having reluctantly subtracted one cabinet minister from his table, and under personal investigation for an alleged failure to declare his wife’s shares in a private childcare company that stands to benefit from his government’s plans to get more people to become childminders.'
Connecting the dots is one of the best feelings in research. But with the intestinal #parasite #Cryptosporidium, these dots are often few & far between. So I'm very happy and proud to share our work connecting crypto, intraepithelial lymphocytes, and potentially, food!
'But though dynastic succession has been largely overruled in modern politics, it still holds in the realm of business. And so we spend time thinking about the differences, say, between George Steinbrenner and his son Hal, and what that means for the fate of the Yankees, with the same nervous equanimity that seventeenth-century people had when thinking about the traits and limitations of an obviously dim-witted Royal Family.'
