I've posted a few illustrations of underwater princesses these past couple of days. Would you like to know more about where they live?

This is Ryūgū, a great underwater palace full of dragons and sea creatures, and of course the royal court of the undersea dragon kingdom.

There's too much to say about it to fit into a single post, but you can read all about it here: yokai.com/ryuuguu/

I guess all I'm saying is that "we gave one guy all the money and then we discovered he's a thin-skinned, half-bright fascist" is not really a convincing argument for carpitalism

Delighted to present our latest work in collab with @Dey_Gautam and @LoewithLab labs (Kudos to @KHinterndorfer @MarineLaporte8 @F_Mikus). We applied U-ExM to S. cerevisiae and S. pombe and combined HPF with U-ExM for optimal organelle preservation

Ok folks, blocking journalists is breaking the last straw for me.

I am now deleting all my tweets and data, keeping only the username to prevent others from using it.

Here is how to delete your tweets: wikihow.com/Delete-All-Tweets

Hi #ScienceMastodon community! First post #introduction:

I'm an asst professor at a PUI with a background in biotech, who loves genomics and goes full mama bear when people punch down on students. I'm here to chat cool science, share knowledge and random thoughts, fight gatekeeping, with occasional shitposting speckled in. Looking to connect with fellow Twitter refugees as well as new friends!

Headed by @bethcimini lab we wrote up the "Hitch-hikers guide to microscopy" (this was title of my folder, but it gives you the idea) - a narrated guide for beginners to get hooked looking at the wonders of the world.

Still mourning my inability to go to any #postgraduate courses during my early #PhD as everything is cancelled due to #pandemic and I have to learn everything virtually on my own until I am in this sweet spot of neither beginner nor advanced without any systematic learning experience.

Cancer, extrachromosomal DNA, and gene amplification

'Boosting the production of a protein is usually achieved by increasing transcription rates, but special cases can involve directly creating more copies of the associated gene (Stark and Wahl, 1984). This phenomenon was first identified in amphibian eggs, where it helps cells to produce the elements required for protein synthesis (see Tobler, 1975 for review).'

'Accounts of tech journalists at CNN, the Washington Post, Mashable and the New York Times were suspended in quick succession on Thursday evening. All had recently published articles about Musk’s suspension of a Twitter account that had shared publicly available data about the movements of his private jet. Each of these articles had highlighted the tension between Musk’s stated commitment to “free speech” and his choice to ban an account that he personally disliked.'

#Introduction:

Hello #ScienceMastodon.

My name is Verena Kohler and I am a #FirstGen #scientist, currently working as independent senior #postdoc at #UniGraz in Austria.

I am interested, how age influences #proteostasis, the balance between protein production, folding and degradation, and how #ageing affects cellular #communication routes.
For that, I am using my favourite #ModelOrganism, the baker’s #yeast, a lot of #FluorescenceMicroscopy and #HighThroughput screens.

Let’s talk #science !

In our most recent work, we found a strong influence of temperature on the efficiency of base editing. We tested two different base editors at the range that is preferred by Drosophila (and many other species; 18C-29C) and found that while one rapidly lost activity, the other one did not.

'Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Senator-elect Peter Welch (D-Vt.) sent a scathing letter to Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla this week over the company's plan to increase the price of its COVID-19 vaccines by 400 percent next year when it enters the commercial market.'

If you're trying to find journalists on Mastodon, I've created a verified database of several hundred here: presscheck.org. Since the backlog has become enormous, the unverified waiting list is now public also: presscheck.org/pending

As you may have heard, in addition to permanently suspending the accounts of several national journalists & the official #Mastodon account:
nbcnews.com/tech/social-media/
#Twitter now also flags links to many popular Mastodon servers as 'unsafe'.

Paper on excess mortality associated with the Covid-19 pandemic. “We estimate 14.83 million excess deaths globally, 2.74 times more deaths than the 5.42 million reported as due to COVID-19 for the period” 2020-2021

After going through this list of journalists and start following some active ones, some of them working for big newspapers and magazines, I wonder which big #journalism organization is going to be the first to have their own #Mastodon server.

This can even facilitate the issue of verified profiles on centralized websites, since here each profile can be easily identified via the institution domain. Somethings like @john@mstdn.nytimes.com, @mary@mstdn.bbc.co.uk etc.
