@ukplissken That switched off all the cynicism we'd been building up. Am hoping there'll be some of the great french bands of recent years like Daft Punk, M83, Phoenix, Christine and the Queens, Air, Justice... But it looks like it's going to be stuff like Charles Aznavour and Celine Dion.
*Le sigh.*
@RadicalAnthro @sellathechemist I deleted the point about Empanadas because they're so radically different, but I agree that there's a number of pastry forms that may have similar lineages. More a case of convergent evolution when we're looking at shapes, is that a factor maybe?
@Lazarou @JoshuaHolland Where they become unpersons. :(
@Jer @emptywheel The answer should be fairly simple, and I can see on YouTube that someone has done an experiment where they shot at the ear of a ballistic gel head. Not clear though if that would have left a burn on his cheek, and any other damage to his ear or hearing from a supersonic bullet passing that close.
There was a (grim) interactive analysis of such wounds a few years back, and it's the kinetic energy of the small projectile that causes damage when a larger slower bullet might penetrate and pass through with a small wound.
@cyrilpedia I guess on a small scale the lineage those hybrids will survive or not, but we would only see that as speciation over thousands of years. Over recorded history there must have been moments like this, but we can't look at that tiny moment in time from the sparse examples we have.
Paris Olympics opening ceremony going for river spectacle and parade. Seems incredibly risky, excitement guaranteed!
@bloor No, only managed tonsee him twice, Apollo about 2018 and Somerset House in 2010. That was epic with just him on the stage, piano or guitar solo. There was a gig CD available on the way out, with the final 20 or so mins sent later as a download. Worth checking out as the crowd singing along was brilliant.
@bloor Love it. My all time favourite artist.
In the US, there's been a lot of talk & concern about foreign investors buying up US farmland.
And there is, in fact, a tech startup that helps them do that! It's like Robin Hood for buying US farmland.
And who's one of its key investors, profiting off of every sale?
J.D. Vance.
Who Trump recently chose as his VP to "represent rural America."
@CattleBaron @GottaLaff Ain't happened since 1973 so I'd say it doesn't count.
@Free_Press Good starter speech, great warmup tracks. Loved the mashup of Anderson.Paak / Jill Scott.
Video chat with ISS astonauts at last week's UCL Festival of Engineering. Not mentioned in the video, but the square devices on the side are Astrobee robots. Several UCLC academics contributed to the machine vision and navigation elements for these UAVs.

@fulelo Online pricks definitely a factor but that Police report does not mention "influencers".
Hey UK-educated #trans folk,
You can get your senior school/college exam certificates reissued in your new name for free, as long as you've had it legally changed.
Can confirm AQA, Edexcel and OCR do this, and very respectfully too. ☺️

Just another worried little citizen of this modern-day Pompeii. Techie at UCL, working on Process Automation with MS Power Platform. Scatterbrain, interested in education, languages, Space and lots of disparate things. sorry.
Keeping my space toots at @astrodad as an experiment in self-moderation :)
