If citizens don’t feel safe in the public square, because it is ruled by intimidation, threats of violence, and displays of aggression, they won’t be able to participate as equal citizens. As a result, democratic political culture perishes.

@amayer @MAKS23 Because it's always been the first sign of easing of tensions. Effectively these individuals are bargaining chips. I find it interesting that Peskov has "nothing to say" on the matter. What we don't know is who's doing the negotiating from RU perspective. Because Putin's credit line has run out at this casino.
@cazmockett Love it!
@louis Unless you count Matt Damon, who took a nice paycheck in exchange for an unsavoury crypto ad.
by the look of it many of the political prisoners in Russia you could often read about on my feed are free - Novaya Gazeta has an unconfirmed list of some of the names not yet in the bulletins: Oleg Orlov, Andrey Pivovarov, Sasha Skochilenko, Liliya Chanysheva, Ksenia Fadeyeva
And here is a bit if background on them:
@MAKS23 May have been a routine thing but yesterday and today there was a flurry of military activity over the North Sea, with US,UK and NL refuelers, Typhoons and F-15s. The latter sometimes not appearing on ADS-B even though I could see them with my own eyes. And that seemed like a lot of gas for only a handful of jets.
St Petersburg artist Sasha #Skochilenko - sentenced to 7ys for replacing supermarket pricing labels with anti-war messages: "The #Russian army bombed an art school in #Mariupol . Around 400 people were hiding inside," and: "My great grandfather did not fight in WWII for four years so that Russia could become a fascist state and attack #Ukraine ."
She was convicted of spreading "false information" about the Russian army.
Okay, I finally got too annoyed about idiot MAGA zealots incorrectly using the words “coup” and “Marxist” while insisting that “America is a republic, NOT a democracy” and wrote about why such abuse of the English language is both stupid and dangerous. https://www.forkingpaths.co/p/maga-corruptions-of-the-english-language
Gardeners of the Galaxy turns 4 today!
I have recorded a celebratory episode, and there will be cake later.
(For me. Sadly one of the limitations of RSS is that it cannot deliver cake.)

@solderandchaos YES! And perhaps like the River Ankh, the Seine is some sort of non-newtonian fluid that allows a swift rider to cross it.
@originlbookgirl @pseudonym Wut? Having Lady Gaga was a weird enough concept. I didn't see that part.
@pseudonym "Horse walking on water" was being sped along the Seine by a some sort of submarine, like something from a James Bond movie.
Altogether spectacular, but lots of random bits of contemporary dance with no real story about Paris or France. Amazed nobody fell off a boat or slipped in the rain (as far as I could tell).
Wikipedia should shut down an hour before the #Olympics opening ceremony and demand a ransom from all the broadcasters frantically trying to come up with facts about the different countries
@cmconseils For the logistics and concept of using the city instead of the stadium? Brilliant. Some of the pieces were amazing, but there were far too many incredibly dull portions that told me nothing about Paris or France. And whilst they were spectacular to see, I imagine you'd be marked if you'd sat there in the rain for several hours.
@mariapopova Aha! This must have been the source for one of the best lines from Westworld. "Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin never died, they simply became music. So I hope you will enjoy this last piece... very much."
Just another worried little citizen of this modern-day Pompeii. Techie at UCL, working on Process Automation with MS Power Platform. Scatterbrain, interested in education, languages, Space and lots of disparate things. sorry.
Keeping my space toots at @astrodad as an experiment in self-moderation :)
