@neil @bloor Another anomaly - no VAT on Private Tuition. It does feel like the VAT ruling is a risky tool for what is a political problem. Might have been better to put conditions on the charitable status, e.g. % admission from underpriveleged backgrounds.

@simonzerafa @bloor Vicars are ordained priests assigned to a church or a group of churches. Bishops govern a Diocese. He'll remain an ordained priest, able to officiate as honorary or assistant bishop.. They also tend to be elevated to the Lords as Life Peers.

+1 for very few spam posts. Maybe by instance is subscribed to some good lists of feds that clamp down on spam?

Loved this piece by Cherrell Avery, engraving poem by Tim Rich.

"There will never be another you, me: a supernova of mental electricity and soft senses that somehow turn the world outside in

Then, at that time we all come to meet, we'll slip this line of life, back into entropy

gently, letting I and the become indefinitely cosmic as we rejoin our family of dust. So every ambition is settled perfectly"

12/14 Instead of crying rigged election, maybe it’s time to admit that biases are still alive and kicking. It’s easier to blame secret plots than face the fact that a lot of people have too much hate and misogynoir in their hearts to vote for a Black woman to have power.

A piece I wrote in January, calling the election for Trump, arguing he won't govern like a fascist but he will be worse than last time: more vengeful, supported by a base with which he has party-like relations and the state retrospectively accepting the Jan 6 coup

Even though fascism’s key thinkers and intellectual enablers came from different ideological backgrounds, this is what appealed to them, what ultimately united them behind the fascist leader. And so it is again today. 9/

How to Talk About Fascism in Trump's Second Term

Once the “Fourth Estate,” now the sideline observer. When did journalism start treating democracy’s meltdown as casual news? It’s time to ask: where’s the outrage?

@duhe.bsky.social But that came at the price of the devastation of Europe.

@atomicpoet Shows they're unable to connect with those who voted on the idea that T is a strong, moral and clever man, despite all evidence to the contrary.

Watched this movie the other day, was half joking with my brother that the imagery was prophetic. Too soon. :(

@urbanfoxe I have just heard some Democrat apparatchik on the radio talking about "Well'll see n four years time if Trump does the things he said in the campaign." Hello? Bit late for that, and we've had 8 years of seeing what he does, in and out of power.

I made the right decision not to stay up and watch the impending doomscape.

@solderandchaos I've got a great vegan carbonara recipe involving that, king oyster mushrooms and nutritional yeast.
