The other aspect of this 40 year anniversary is that Milei's running mate is the daughter of one of the generals of the Junta. She dismisses the the torture, killing and disappearances of 30,000 or more during the "Dirty War". These were "justified" because the victims were terrorists, she claims. It's a deep wound in Argentina's society which is not going to be healed by such stances.

Ok, nothing conclusive yet, both sides claiming victory. Looking at midnight (UTC) before anything announced. Just been an announcement that 76% of the electorate have cast their vote, and some stations are still working through the queue.

10 minutes until the polls close in the Presidential election (). Might be an announcement soon if there is clear distance between Massa and Milei.

With his "libertarian" stance (YMMV), is raising the spectre of Brasil under Bolsonaro, whilst for others who are angry at the corruption and inaction of recent "Kirchnerist" governments, doesn't inspire much confidence in menaingful change.

Montem Primary in threatened with closure, despite GOOD rating, and excellent work supporting some of the most vulnerable and deprived children in the borough. A real shame if this goes ahead.

Today, the #Tories awarded an unelected man a life peerage just so they could make him Foreign Secretary, one of the so-called Great Offices of State. As an non-MP he won't have to face any questioning in the HoC chamber.

Nine days ago it was revealed that the government is planning to broaden the definition of extremism to include those who "undermine the UK’s system of parliamentary democracy, its institutions and values".

I know the answer to this is obvious, but why aren't there more open source games?

The only one I can think of that people still regularly play is OpenTTD (transport tycoon delux). Doom/Quake etc, don't count - the engine is OS but not the game itself.

But, but … they’d lose their coveted ACCESS if they call a spade a spade and print what trump means for our democracy, and he gets elected anyway.
What I can’t understand is how they blind themselves to the reality that their precious freedom of the press will go out the window under a trump authoritarian government? Yeah, they won’t want for stories—what trump wants them talk about—so the bottom line will be fine, but any pretense of journalism will be dead.
