Time to start learning programming again.
I got everytime in the world for that. (Well. I took a 1 year off college starting from next semester :ablobdundundun: ).

So...
What specs do i need to start my own server as a complete beginner?
I'm planning on building a dns server that include a huge amount of blocklist since my device can't even handle a 10+mb host.

@deesapoetra is the only purpose of the server to host a dns server or are there other services you wish to host?

@freemo

Well.. I would like to setup my own private mail service sir.

@deesapoetra ahh I see. You shouldnt need anything too hefty for that then. The bigger issue is just redundancy. If it goes down you could loose incoming mail. The other thing youll find is it can be hard to block spam as well as professional mail servers. But you wont need a very powerful computer or internet connection for that.

@freemo is shared 1 gig 1 cpu "good" enough?
And also.
Which brand you would recommend for a vps sir? (Idk if "brand" is the correct terms. "Company" might be a better fit).

@deesapoetra You might just get by with 1 gig and 1 cpu if your the only one using the mail server and it isnt under heavy load. However its hard to say, best to monitor you memory and cpu usage once its up and adjust as needed.

As for the company Amazon will be the most expensive but also the most professional with the most tools. But the price probably will be a deterrent for you.If you want something more affordable, and "good enough" perhaps Digital Ocean is the way to go.
